suppose you gotta ask yourself why you'd love a vintage fender then? .. why not get one that has a pre-amp as standard if thats what you want!

I arn't a collector, and it's not a value thing with me as I agree an Instrument should be played .. I just think they sound perfect as standard and thats why I'd play one .. if i wanted to change the sound then I'd want something else wouldn't I ?

this is very easily resolved, alot of the 70's jazzes had 0.033mf or even 0.022mf ceramic capacitors fitted to the tone pot so when rolled off not alot of top came off as you said! if this is the case simply put a 0.047mf ceramic capacitor in to replace the existing one!
most jazzes today have the 0.047mf cap as standard and it's alot more usable.
certainly wouldn't wack a J-Retro in a 73 .. sacrilege!

hey Bill .. the standard Delta-12 isn't even that good mate with only 1.6mm xmax!
the Delta 12A is 2.4mm which must be the one your refering to!
but the Delta 12b is 2.7mm and the 12LF,12LFA,12LFC have 4.8mm xmax
but like i said earlier I'm not here to champion these drivers or even recommend them, I just was merely stating that the ME driver that the OP was talking about and seem pleased with was replaced by the Delta.

so I agree with what you say totally but I have also found that personally used in multiples can produce some pretty pleasing results!

I'm just quoting what Eminence e-mailed me a while back .. they said the Delta replaced the ME range for General PA and Bass Guitar,
I'm not saying there the greatest of Bass Speaker or have a super low end response but they replaced the speaker you mensioned! that was my only point!! .. so if your happy with what the ME gave you in your cab the Delta would do the same!!
I'm sure they are far better replacements for extended Bass response etc

but I will add.. after E-mailing Eminence I made a 2x12 cab with Eminence designer program and used 2x ME 12's in a ported 100 litre cab, I used the T/S parameters for the Delta 12's as they recommended, and they sound pretty good to be honest! suppose it's all about what you wanna get out of it .. but remember not everybody wants there vision to be blurred and to throw up after 10 mins with Sub Bass frequencies !!

I can tell you that the discontinued ME-10 was replaced by the Delta-10
I have a pair of ME-12's and I e-mailed Eminence for T/S parameters .. and they told me that the Delta range replaced the ME range

In all fairness mate it could have been bought in 96 .. but i reckon this was made in 95 which the N5 serial no. suggests!
I also know that all US standard P/J's made in 96 had a little oval gold sticker on back of headstock which commemorated 50 years of Fender 1946-1996 .. tho that could have easily been removed.

anyway .. It looks really nice, wish i had the money cos i really miss mine

maybe its the pics or my eyes .. but doesn't look to have the cut away access to truss rod!
I bought a black 96 model in 96 that come as standard with a white scatchplate and it had access to truss rod!

just wondered thats all

I used there Standard Gauge Nickel Swing Bass Sets years ago and thought they sounded great, and better still they were easy to get hold of, but had to stop using them because of there inconsistency from pack to pack.. had quite a few sets with a dead E string from new, tried using them again years later and found same problem occasionally, so decided it was too much of a risk buying them.

don't know much about there other sets but has anyone else found this with there Standard Nickel Swing Bass sets ?

I saw Mike Clark on the Funk Stops Here Tour in Leeds Irish Centre nearly 20 years ago
and i remember that i couldn't stop smiling the whole way thru the show, it was the funkiest thing i'd ever seen

IME your hands and ears are more responsible for what comes out of it!
all Fender's to me (Guitars included) have to be worked to get what you want out of them, guess thats why some people don't like them!
