Also if plugged into fx loop output, doesn't that cut signal to power amp section? Dunno if signal is necessary.

I bet the problems the amount of X Boxes, PlayStations and Class D amplifiers that have been dumped as they cannot be repaired far outweighs the damage the lead ever did. Rant over!

Mostly if you don't bin them the lead doesn't get to the environment. But also, check how sane all the 'senior' amp techs are. -
Doesn't apply to all amps though, because the 'standby' switch doesn't always do the same thing. Pretty sure it does on the Sound City though.
-
Probably, the actual mechanism of an unloaded amp self destructing is a bit hard to pinpoint. The idea of shorting jacks is that a dead short is better than totally open.
-
I think it has shorting jacks so if nothing was plugged into them (as opposed to a lead plugged in with nothing on the other end) they'd have a low impedance load, which is supposed to be happy. Is Bruce competing with me on valve sales then?
-
Pretty much all the amps I've repaired have been worth repairing. I'm not very good at repairing though, so there are some I've not yet figured how to do.

Guess stereo from the symmetry and proportions that suggests not for MI use, and from sig, Leak Stereo 20?
-
I'd say not go combo and get a head and cab, much easier to upgrade modular, and at gear sharing gigs, only need to cart a head about, and you learn a lot about cabs that way, and how to use EQ to suit them.

Must get shot of my SC120, is very tidy and unmolested, just hisses
[/quote]
Molest some decent metal film resistors in and bunch of the hiss will go. -
I had one of these and it was a really nice instrument. Didn't deal with the five. Had a mild urge to go high C for faux classical and flamenco on bass, an this is a bit tempting.

Not comparable to the Fearful again.

The 12/126 is equivalent to the Barefaced Big Twin, so £960 with tweeter and neo surcharge.

And shipping, which I guess is included in parts cost for the Fearful.
Edit: and neo surcharge is £40 per woofer not £30 per woofer like I thought. -

Dunno what are in there by default, but changing some ECC83 for ECC81 is the way to clean up.

When I click I get a not found.

Only power up breakup is avoided with low volume. The preamp is going to be running as hard wherever the master is. And the Ampeg pre is pretty fiddly with gain stages, so bunches of valve colour.
-
Limited eq make it hard to totally duff up the sound, that seems to figure fairly highly. The harmonics thing makes frequencies you think you should hear become apparent in the frequencies you actually hear. compression and distortion smooth out a lot of unpleasantness.

Any takers? Christmas is coming and this would look good under the tree.
"Here you go love, for you..."
"What the f**k is this?!?!?!"

Totally the story of how you got this, and subsequent amps. -
Best way to get Ampeg tone is Sansamp VT bass. The other way involves expensive amps very loudly.
-
Volume difference between 160 and 200 isn't much, the problem comes in when you pay for 200w and only get 160w. Also they look silly without massive speakers.
-
If it is the right price, you can try it, and if it doesn't work, move it on and get a real Matamp.
Bit of pre valve swapping can alter the headroom a bunch, and will probably achieve what you are after. -
Much better off sticking the whole assembly into a new sleeve. There is arcane science to the layout so no bit picks up hum and interference from the other bit, reason why the transformer is away from the rest and such.

Tempted to convert one of mine now, just add two octave strings.
Nealry killed my SC's valves!!!!

I've heard that some amps can go into oscillation when unloaded which would have the effect of blasting signal. Mine was prone to oscillation because of a duff resistor.
