1. Productive weekend for a change. Wrote/recorded something folky:

And something electronic(ish). Still writing vocals for this one:

There should be no distinction at all, we are all bassists, musicians.

I don't think I have come across anyone referring to 'the black bassist, Marcus Miller', so why the f*** do some of us feel the need to mention gender? Unless it's to make puerile or lazy comparisons, or to point out that 'she plays really well for a burd' or whatever.

This.

3. My brother plays a thinline ASAT in my band. It sounds more like a fat Jazz to me than a 'ray. Nice bass. If I were going to go for one I'd probably plump for a tribute, though, seems to me you get more for your money that way.

Her looks didn't come under my notice. She's not my type. The post was about her tone. I liked her tone. I like plays on words. That's all.

Sorry, I didnt really mean to single you out there, I do appreciate that it was a fairly light hearted title and that your OP was focused on the tone - it was really some of the subsequent postings that invoked my ire and I've seen some more extreme examples of thread titles in the same vein that I was thinking of. I could have been more clear though.

5. The music industry and scene can be quite a sexist place. There is no good reason for the number of guitar/bass players/drummers being skewed towards men, considering the wealth of wonderful female artists and instrumentalists out there who clearly prove that musical talent has nothing to do with gender, but I'd postulate that it may be because a lot of girls are put off picking up guitars/basses or joining bands due to the fact that it is percieved to be something that boys do. In addition to that though, just look at the title of this thread, and many others I've seen on BC - instant focus on the fact the player is a girl combined with a reference to her looks. Meant in good humour or not it's depressingly common for female musicians to be objectified before they've even played a note. It's not just a problem with the music scene, it's a problem with society, IMO.

6. QOTSA - Like Clockwork (I was never much of a QOTSA fan but this record is right up my alley, can hear a lot of Beatles/Bowie influence in there)
Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (sugary pop music, simply, but catchy as all hell. I have been caught singing along to this at traffic lights quite a lot)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito (although it's not as good as some of thier earlier records IMO, bar a few standout tracks)
Atoms For Peace - AMOK (like a less depressing Kid A, sort of)
