1. Here's a nice piece with great video, of a pretty darn good bass player using iRig (and discussing his live rig that uses AmpliTube/Ampeg SVX too!)... Nice that he is another that coaxes signature tones out of iRig (like the Steely Dan guitarist we've got on YouTube doing those tunes too): http://bit.ly/ny1pre If you are not getting much signal, please do give support a shout out - our CTO who leads these projects is a bass player and I don't think he uses active pickups much so I'm thinking we'd be sure to get good signal from a bass with passive electronics. Thanks!
2. It is landing in users' hands today in Japan, and has been doing really well. I hope some folks have had a chance to run bass through this here. Here are the app links and a link to reviews just for reference if anybody needs them: AmpliTube Free: 3 stompboxes, 1 amp+cabinet, 2 microphones http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-f...d373309342?mt=8 AmpliTube LE: 5 stompboxes, 1 amplifier + cabinet, 2 microphones - $2.99/€2.39 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-le/id373507300?mt=8 AmpliTube: 11 stompboxes, 5 amps + cabinets, 2 microphones - $19.99/€15.99 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube/id373524000?mt=8 And still lots of great reviews coming in: http://bit.ly/irigreviews
3. He says "I don't have a bass" but still some tasty licks that show latency really isn't an issue: Richard Fortus of Guns N' Roses says "the most interesting thing to happen to the iPhone yet": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfMGZ2tx2TE
4. And someone posted an "unboxing" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voCI-VS_mvw
5. Yes, but the best thing will be when shipments arrive to people who preordered! That's the first leg of this race. THEN the updates, features, etc... whew.
6.
Of course the elephant in the room with the peavey system (http://www.peavey.com/ampkitlink/) is "can you play along with your existing music?" as that is not mentioned in Peavey video , I'd guess the Peavey system is in the same boat as the amplitude one as they don't mention it. Shame As it seems to be limitations of the iPhone platform, maybe I'll email Steve Jobs to make him aware of how including something to allow guitar amp apps to play along with songs with low latency will open up a whole new market for the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad platform. - Perhaps after I report those squirrels to Nick Clegg, that I mentioned in off topic.
Yes we tried to do it that way at first and it was absolutely unbearable. Interacting with a core app like iPod on these devices doesn't give you much leeway for sure. We'll work out what we can - heard some good things that are coming just a couple of hours ago. Can't wait!
7. Well, we can't currently compare app or hardware, but we've definitely gone through a lot to make iRig the best choice for getting guitar signal into your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch. Although it appears as a simple accessory, it is the result of many rounds of experimentation and a highly selective components selection. Many technical challenges were solved by IK's engineers before we were able to reach the best possible solution in terms of sound quality and usability. Oh, and we're shipping! 8.
Ok thanks. It was just an idea. Can i delete the Lead amp instead? (im guessing i cant). No big deal. I agree with you about the adaptor not being simple. I guess if it was that simple we would all be making them. EDIT: It seems like Soundslive didn't get them in today (at least, my order wasn't updated and its still showing due in in a weeks time) so i cancelled my order. I probably will get one at some point but i realised i have a Korg Pandora and i very rarely use that, paying £30 for the irig adaptor would probably be a waste of money right now. Ill see how things develop.
Dealers won't get them yet but soon. Some dealers are already reordering and most are mentioning that folks should preorder to get in on their first shipment. Our first shipment had to be increased and production in general upped for the demand.
9.
Well, ive just ordered the adaptor (Irig) from Soundslive, they say they are expecting thme in on the 28th so hopefully i should get it this week. Im away with the band all next weekend so hopefully i can use this. A question to IK Multimedia. I've purchased the Bass amp, how can i make it the default amp? at the moment the app is opening with the Lead amp selected. Cheers.
I will pass that request along, don't think that's something that can be done now. As for the adapter being simple, it is not just a simple pass-through and it does get the best signal possible into the device and app but yes I'm sure some could knock one up. However, if it was that simple - previous attempts wouldn't have been so, with all due respect to those who made them, unsuccessful... Oh and 3 days to go until the iRig ships! July 1st in Europe, July 7th in the US… Get the FREE version of AmpliTube For iPhone here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-f...d373309342?mt=8
10. Yes, we're open to ideas and I'll pass these along. I have to find out if 20 was arbitrary or some limitation of app size (if they are stored by the app, there may be some dev guidelines as to how much et)... Thank you and yes we're already evolving it as we speak.
11. Unfortunately if it was pulled in from the phone, it would be unplayable with the unbearable latency and to directly reencode it was not an available option unfortunately. If advances in the platform allow for it in the future, I'm sure we will.
12. Yes, the bass rig is an in-app purchase or in the Full. You have to import from your computer because the iTunes/iPod player is at 1024 samples which is excrutiatingly latency-inducing compared to our very low rate that allows for the low latency. So it needs to be imported that way. Otherwise you'd never be able to play along comfortably in time without wanting to rip your hair out.
13.
Thanks for the reply. One more question (last one i promise). This will work under iOS4 wont it?
I'll make sure but we've had iOS4 for a while now so that should be a non-issue. By the way, AmpliTube for iPhone is now in wide release. Get the FREE version with 3 stompboxes, 1 amp+cabinet, 2 microphones here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-f...d373309342?mt=8 Also there are LE and Full versions: AmpliTube LE: 5 stompboxes, 1 amplifier + cabinet, 2 microphones - $2.99/€2.39 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube-le/id373507300?mt=8 AmpliTube: 11 stompboxes, 5 amps + cabinets, 2 microphones - $19.99/€15.99 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitube/id373524000?mt=8
14.
Thanks for the kind words, if you have any other questions let me know. Also, in two days the app will be available - including the free version and you can play with it on your device! http://www.amplitube.com/irig
You can play the included examples and there will be an "easter egg" method of getting your own direct samples imported in as well, I'm told. The adapter is going to be shipped first come, first serve in very early July. That date is correct and we look to be on schedule for it.
