I rehearsed for about 2 1/2 hours with the band last Friday night. I have a padded wide Levys strap, but I still ended up with shoulder pain. I got quite excited by this Lekato strap,  but I’ve just measured my strap, and I need 110cm. I’m over six foot, and don’t consider that I wear my bass high, so I’m a bit surprised that 115cm is the shortest it will go.

    I’ll keep looking.

I think they have 3 sizes, each with a different range, have a look.

Got one of these through the post on a whim and a prayer,  wondering if i was going to like it.  I have now ordered a 2nd

It  was utterly outrageously stupendously top notch.  Sometimes you dont get reinforced stitching around button holes.  I have a cheapo 4" leather strap that are without and they're getting stretched.  This is made properly and is incredibly gentle on the shoulder.

Much more so than my cheapo one, and more so than my  monstrously expensive Italia Leather Strap as in the link.  In fact, i have the long version, so they're more expensive @  127.99 dollars than the standard one in the link.

Couldnt find these in the UK.  Gonna sell mine as those Lekatos are the bees patellas

I've been using those Lekato straps for a while. Very comfy, I've ended up with four of them. Really nice.

It's one of those blanket catchall knee jerk jobs by some officious  reptile.  It certainly needs more thought.

For instance, what if they were an acoustic kit drummer ?   Would anyone like that next door ?

Surely there needs to be some thought going into this sort of legislation, rather than just ban the lot

Indeed. I thought the main issue is noise, regardless how it's generated, and we can measure sound levels at different frequencies rather easily.

It's almost as 'though those in charge of things didn't know what they were doing ;)

This is quite long running but iirc there was evidence that people within his band(s) knew full well what he was up to.  Not saying all of them but I can't believe you'd not have got a whiff of what he is up to.

Were it me I'd be very publicly and through every possible avenue available, be letting folk knew what he'd done; which might include buying a ticket to a show and voicing my displeasure while he was on stage... but that's just me.  In fact someone tried to scam me on ebay and I very easily established who they were and their band.  I'm just waiting my opportunity to catch up with the gent and let him know what I thought of his stunt!

Yup. "Standard" avenues are clearly not working. Reporting and all is all great, but the result has been a resounding flip all. It's crazy the guy keeps getting away with it.

  5. I just ordered a B1X Four... it was almost rude not to :D

I have moved to using multiFX as I'm depping with various bands here and there in addition to my regular bands and it gets tiring rearranging pedalboards, so I got a B6 last November. Really cool unit, but I find it's easy to use up all the processing power once you start getting into a few effects plus preamp/amp/cab sims, which I'm really keen as I'm also trying to get into mostly an IEM setup. The B1X Four just seemed like the perfect companion to put into the B6's FX loop.

This thread was a great read, thank you all :)

  6. I can't say that ALL MM style pickups sound great passive, but every one I've tried did.

Nordstrand MM4.2, Seymour Duncan SMB4A and 4D, GFS, a few assorted cheap ones and even the original in my 2002 Stingray.

I've also read quite a few times that MM pickups need a preamp etc etc, and some quote the low DC resistance (2-3 KOhm, if the coils are in parallel as a Stingray) as proof... but it's all, quite frankly, a load of... something that the forum's swearing filter would probably change ;)

    I wouldn't worry.

If you want a classic Stingray sound, I'd recommend the Nordstrand MM4.2. It was, in my hands, very similar to the MusicMan stock, and definitely works well in passive form as well as with a standard onboard bass preamp. I was surprised when I found out the low DC resistance of those pickups, as I tended to associate that value with output level, roughly, but clearly the story is more complicated than that, and those pickups are not weak when wired passively.

    Passive Stingray rawks ;)

I have a BTB sitting here doing nothing along with the mid-range stack. I could be persuaded to part with them as a set.

If you still had the midrange module and want to sell it, I damaged the one in my MMSR so I'd be very happy to buy it from you :)

So when discussing the fact we have a relatively short period of time to practice for a gig, and looking at available times for practices.  I questioned why we were going ahead with the gig, tbh there isnt much in it for the band.  The message I got was lets just get on with it theres not allot of time etc...eventually the message goes out, if we have to we will get a replacement bass player.  So Im now left feeling utterly disposable.   There's a shed load of reasons why this comment came out later, too much drama to go into, but do i just accept it as a one of those ill thought out comments or am i right to think "Whats the point of playing in this band?"

I really don't know which way to go with it..so I thought I'd ask the hive mind

    Jonny

Hard to say without knowing the whole thing, but from what you've said I think that would become my ex-band pretty quick:

"good idea, get a replacement now, as I'm out"

'Trons are my second favourite guitar pickup, just behind P90s. So unlike PAF types, but still bucking that 60cycle hum. Easy access hollow area? Smuggler Tele!

Aha, indeed. I love P90s, I've got a Les Paul with P90s that sounds fantastic... but if the Tele picked up interference in my room, the Les Paul is just crazy. But it sounds so good!

Oofft! Bass forum or not, that's stunning 😍.

It's a great guitar, a Harley Benton TE-90FLT Blast Green... all I did was tune it and play. It sounds pretty damn good and those Filtertron style pickups are pretty cool, almost sound single-coily but humbucking, which in my 'toy room' is very welcome as I get a bit of noise with my usual Telecaster, for example.

The area under the pickguard is hollow, providing an interesting hiding place. Or something.

Anyway, I don't want to veer too much away from the 25th anniversary Firemist series... so to get back a little bit, here's something that got my attention initially (fortunately I already have an HSS Stratocaster that I love and is going nowhere... but clearly I had a Filtertron itch and the TE-90 showed up behind the Firemist "oooh, hello sailor?" and teh rest is history :D )

Is it the Darkglass Tone Capsule ?

Had a Dingwall NG2 with a Darkglass preamp and it was nice but quite aggressive but it suited the NG2 bass and the Prog project i was using it for.

Curious to see how you get on with it in the VM4.

    Dave

That's the one. There will be a passive tone control as well, always on.

  12. Forgive me father, for I have sinned...

No, after serious consideration, I didn't get one of those, tempting as they are. But in the process something else caught my attention and this happened:

Wanted to update this. I’m still (pretty) happy with this unit. There is some noise, kinda high pitched digital noise but I can’t hear it when playing along to things.

I updated the firmware again yesterday, there is now a tuner (maybe there was before but they have it in the release notes) in the app and I loaded on a bunch of Shiftline IR’s which all sound great.

I can’t imagine a better, smaller tool. It’s my practice setup and in a pinch a recording interface. Overall it means the footprint of the gear I carry for these purposes is tiny.

Definitely going to be investigate additional IR’s…. oh and I found out I can drag and drop the fx blocks and ordering of them so I’ve started running compression post IR. I think it sounds better before the amp but it’s nice as a different flavour.

Oh cool! Thank you for the heads up, I'll update mine too.

We took our Bandeoke show to the Blue Lagoon in Bristol last night.

First time there, and sadly a very quiet night. However those who were there couldn't have been more enthusiastic, one young woman even came up and gave us a 20 quid tip!

The dearth of punters meant we basically played a two hour request show. I used my new HB 25th anniversary bass, Bugera Veyron into Barefaced Compact and jolly good it all was too.

Just after we had finished the pack down a rugby team walked in. If only they'd been an hour earlier....

I did exactly what you want to do. I put the Tone Capsule in my TM4 and kept the tone control in passive mode.

Now I'm much happier with the sound, because the two perfect mid controls use a lot more than the original EQ with the treble control, especially when trying to imitate the Stingrtay sound.

I have listened to some clips you posted earlier, I have to confess that you were partly what made me decide to try the Tone Capsule :)

I normally go to John East for all my onboard preamp needs, and even got a Uni-Pre Deluxe (3-band, semiparametric mids and dedicated passive tone) but it just didn't fit in the control cavity. That's when I saw the Tone Capsule: I love that the bass control is set higher than most others (40 Hz is too low, for me. 70-80 Hz seems a better choice), and the dual mid frequencies are very well chosen too (for my liking, again)... Then I listened to your TM4 and bought one :)

I've got all the different pots for it (I had to get a stacked dual 50K for the mids) and I just need a free weekend to sit down and do the deed.
