I have the first "Jaco" fretless that John ever made, I had him make it since the Fender model was crazy money for what looks like, quite frankly stencilled relic work. I'd have to disagree about the quality of John's work though, the relic job on mine looks incredible and very realistic. Also, John makes the bodies and necks himself (or did when I ordered mine, that may have changed) to make sure that they are period correct. I've never played a Nash, only seen pictures but I'd put his stuff up against Nash any day of the week. -
My Ken Smith Burner Custom 5 is 16mm, very comfortable indeed.

I know Stevie and I've had a go on this bass. The pics don't really do it justice, its really comfortable, and even though I'm not a sixer kind of guy in the slightest I got around on it really easy, despite it being a broadneck.

I've got an i2M which I use in conjunction with both Reason and Ableton Live, and the latency is so microscopic as to be virtually inaudible. I can use it perfectly in a live situation triggering either midi notes, or as a High-Z audio interface, and it tracks perfectly all the way down to open E. Never used it with my 5 string, but there's a function in the editing software to set it for a 5-string bass.
All I would say is, if you're planning on getting one of Sonuus's products (and just on personal experience I'd recommend the i2M), make sure your intonation is dialled in as exact as you can possibly get it, and that your bass is perfectly in tune, otherwise you risk triggering double midi notes while the i2M tries to figure out exactly what note you're trying to play. -
I've been using this set-up for a while now, and while it sounds great the way I have it set I'm wondering how far up the level of the Sansamp should be to adequately drive the power amp. At the moment I've got the level set at about 2 o'clock and none of the eq levels are extreme, but not long ago I had a speaker expire on me, and I'm wondering whether it was connected to the level of the Sansamp being too high, pushing a clipping signal into the power amp and subsequently the speakers of my cab.
Any advice? -
Could it not have been refretted at some point, and this is as a result of the refret?

If anybody gets near Dundee any time soon, keep an eye out for a club night at a place called the Reading Rooms, called "Bass Orgy". A friend of mine and some of his buds built a full, massive PA system consisting only of BFM designs, and it kicks ass! I played live drum & bass through it with a drummer and keyboard player, all of us using Ableton and looping live, and the sound was incredible. Amazingly hi-fi for such a big PA.

It's a cracking looking bass, and I bet it sounds fantastic. But at $24,000 I'd be scared to play it at home, never mind do a gig with it.
If I can't play it, its completely worthless to me. -
I saw one of those Overwaters in Red Dog in Edinburgh. They look even better than they do in the photos I've seen!

One of my friends, Scotty Donald, is doing live looping just like this, and it is the absolute bollocks! He's doing everything from trip-hop, dn'b, dubstep, all sorts of nutty stuff. He's also doing stuff with a band called Man's Ruin, which is a mashup of Celtic music, funk and jazz. Think he's got some videos on his page from when they did a BBC Radio Scotland live broadcast.
This was his first wee experiment using the Roland SPDS, and a scaled down set-up.

The guy is obviously very skilled, and I don't think he's out to fool anyone but it doesn't seem to stop with the external features. IIRC, I've seen one of his creations, a 'replica' of a 60s Jazz, which had an authentic looking neck stamp.
There's potential for deception, whether intended or not, once an instrument has changed hands a few times over the years.
It's a Bravewood, not a Fender, and should be clearly labelled as such.
