These pups - the square single-coil things with 2 rows of pole pieces like in your Rickenfaker - can be a mixed bag, so wait & see. You might get a pair of the 11k ones like in my Faker. :)

Had a touch today....stood outside a local cafe watching the roadsweeper & his street scene crew try to decide where was the best place to park their transit so it could not be seen by their supervisor....when on looking at said vehicle i noticed what looked like a guitar neck, strolled over and low & behold it was a Bass I asked what do you want for this one said a Fiver another a tenner...we settled on £5....
It a Kay possibly mid 70's and in reasonable nick nothing missing at all,Ive forgotten the model but will post pics when I bring it home tomorrow...

    weighs a bloody tonne

Looks nice, obviously depending on condition. I think it's a Fujigen J copy, fairly early 70s going on the tuners, pickups & trc. It's had a headstock pin badge, which from the outline I'm fairly sure was Eros (compare it to the one on this rather nice EB-3 copy), which would support the age & the Fujigen theory. Early Eros guitars were sourced form Fujigen & Matsumoku - I had a Fujigen Tele & Mat LP, and the EB-3 is a Mat.

I think if you can get it for around the £100 mark it would be something of a bargain, assuming everything's OK.

Lets hope that was £107 well spent then :) ....the pups look ropey....wonder what will end up in there??? :)
She said """ Can it be done up in pink flock" :) to match her jukebox...lol

  7.
Anyone catch Simply Red last night on ITV?

Was wondering if anyone could confirm the bassist was playing a 50th Aniversary Fender Jazz? Lovely sounds...

How could Hucknall call the band Simply Red as he was the only original member playing...?
Easy Answer....Mick is Simply Red without him you would just have a band.....all credit to him,,,he could rinse Red for years....bet hes off on a project WE aint seen the last of Mr Hucknall...
Didnt think that was a Fender but I like my eyes are getting on now

  8.
Hi,this might sound a bit of a daft question, but im going to ask anyway! I have a bass head that puts out 350 watts at 4 0hms,i have a 15 inch cab, 8 ohm cab,(no idea what watts),and a 200 watt,8 ohm 2 x 10 cab. If combined they are say 400 watts, and the amp is putting out 350,will my speakers be ok? Or should i be getting a larger cab? I dont play particularly loud,so is the amp only 350 watts if played at full voulme? I am as you can probably guess, completely confused!! Any help, much appreciated.Thanks.
NO NO NO NO NO

It will explode and you will die in an undignified electrical disaster...

    Yep thats fine :)

However youd be better off with a nice MBWS and ext cab......it just so happens I have one to hand a mere £1000 englisi punts

  12.
Just did that, the oil is quite coloured (it has been sat about for a few years, and has some lumps in it seems), and even dilute, there is a nice golden glow to it, gonna wait for it to harden off and burnish it down with the wire wool again, and go over it with a cloth to lose the bits.
Once you feel your happy.. ....THEN.....Hit it with a hot air stripper & fine wool the golden glow will look even better :)

  13.
It's a tough call.

Have you spoke to the guitarist and drummer?

My mate and his other band members all left their band and started a new one when they decided their singer was a prick...I laughed my head off when he told me that.
Are the other 2 having 2's up on her  if so just leave.. :) ..if you aint been asked then you clearly aint wanted

  14.
I am and old newbeee. Been playing guitar most of my life. Just took up bass to do some home recording a couple of years ago. As you know recording is a money-eater. I have been putting the bass straight into the recorder (am changing from Akai DPS16 to Focusrite pro computer audio interface). I want better results and was wondering about micing an amp. I don't want the expense of 2 good amps so was thinking about a bass combo that I could play my guitar through as well. I use Tokai strat and a Fernandez (humbuck pups). My bass is a EBMM SUB. Have some pretty good mics.
Im currently using my sons Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout combo :) with a Heritage H 575 but Ive also put my t-line through & both sound very nice with a twiddle here & there ....the H575 has the edge though...

Danny I apologise profusely...NOT...yer shoulda sold the bugger before you went

  15.
TJC Guitars in Stevenage, Herts, if not already mentioned on this thread.

Terry did a respray on a black Fender Precision, to Arctic White (nitro, mmmmmm) charged £150, when everywhere else was looking at £300.

He also did a great set-up on my bass, plays like a dream now, and for the full set-up he charges £50.

Was also a top bloke to deal with.
she needs someone who will love here & treat her right..

    is that YOU?!!
I would totally abuse the bugger but I will give you a grand for the privaledge, you may well feel this to be a low offer but I feel it to be realistic based on my recent purchases.
And BA is spot on with the case issue..

Yes I know you feel this an insult but you are welcome to tell me to shove it,I would but then Im not selling :)

You need a haicut young man.....thats what I think :)

  18. My eldest is currently selling his gear left with me as he travels and Im wondering .....anyone looking for a MBWS ext cab...£400????????in super condition with cover..

If this sells on here then another BCer will be getting the combo :)

  19.
If you intend keeping it then of course it doesn't make much difference what you do to it - except that these are rare as Pope-poo and there ain't too many in as good original nick as yours!

These were also available in fireglo & black, so it's possible you could find someone who'd do a swap for the same bass in a more appealing colour - although that's a bit of a long shot because there ain't too many of them left.

If you do go for a refin, what about something a bit more unusual, maybe like a transparent blueburst:

Have to say I think that's gorgeous - in fact it was seeing an early 70s 4001 in a similar finish (being played by Gerry Cunningham of Angel Witch, fact fans!) back in 1982 that was a formative influence on my lifelong Rick-fetish. As well as Geddy Lee & Lemmy, of course. :)

    Jon

How long have you been a mind reader....My wife said earlier Why dont you have the"blue wash like on your Archtop" I thought hang on I have blue what about a Green???
I am now waiting on my mate Paul to see if he will do it at reasonable cost.
The blues a sister of these 2

Jon the bridge pup is sort of nothing great could you recommend anything to replace it????

  20.
Further to my post yesterday about the resilience of nitro finishes, are any bass stands safe for use with a nitro finish or is the foam on all of them liable to stain?

PS, I know I could put some old T-shirt material over my Warwick Rockstand (which is next to my bed :)) but Mrs Clarky, being house-proud, might object to that
I have had the problem I know you will be refering to...I solved it with further instruments by use of chamois leather .I cut it into strips the width of the foam rolled it round and superglued in place putting the join at the bottom so its nowhere near the instrument....works fine as far as I can see.......wheres the CS gone?????
