1. Light, portable and loud. In pristine condition, comes with the original box.

You can find my feedback here : http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1612354

    SOLD

  2. SOLD

Having a bit of a clear out and decided to part with my customized Peavey. The original build thread can be found here:
    http://basschat.co.u...33#entry2488933

As stated in the build thread it was built using a 1978 Peavey T-40 for a donor bass, with a custom build basswood '51 fender-like body with an arm contour. As you can see from the pictures, the paint job is not perfect. After the last fret the edge of the neck (fretboard) has been sanded off – this is how I got it, it was not even lacquered so my bass tech has applied same color lacquer and now it looks nice. The neck is in really nice shape – extremely small dings and a few scuffs. As You can see from the photos it is a bit harder to show the exact color since it tends to be different in different light, but I hope You get the general idea. Currently strung with Fender Flatwounds.

I am selling it with all the other original bits and pieces pictured (except the original body). The other pickup works fine, as I remember all the pots were OK, I believe only the switches were troublesome – perhaps one of them. So it can be restored with a T40 body if anyone is up to that.

More hi-res photos of the bass can be found here: https://plus.google....COyq_rTg_-zc4QE

The bass alone costed me 400 plus, so I believe that SOLD is a fair price. I will ship from Bulgaria so there will be no import taxes for EU buyers. For other EU countries – please, inquire for price due to huge differences in shipping rates. I suppose that PayPal is best as payment method. You can find my feedback here : http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1612354

Feel free to ask me any additional questions or demand additional photos. I want to tell You in advance that due to my working schedule it is possible that I would not be able to ship it immediately, but if we negotiate a deal I can put it on hold and after I know when I can ship it, payment can be made the same day that I ship.

  3. It’s a 1983 JV series Telecaster, model TL 52-95. You all know how good they are. Correct ’52 wiring, cloth wires, brass saddles, dome knobs, bakelite guard, etc. It’s a natural roadworn, with a few chips and some scuffs, the nitro lacquer has aged nicely. The frets have been recently polished by my guitar tech. I believe everything on the guitar is original down to every last screw. All the electronics and hardware works properly. The hardware has some ageing to it – oxidation, rust, etc. – it can all be seen in the detailed photos in the following link : https://plus.google....CPjYt9q3xeaM9gE

it looks good in some basses, but I cannot stand the way if feels... shudder.
I just got a Classic 50 Precision, and I think I'm going to have to change the pickguard. It gives me the same feeling as scratching a blackboard with my nails... :(
I know what You mean. For the same reason I shot the guard of my custom 57 with a clear coat (can be seen above). Not the best solution, but still an option if You want to keep the looks.

  5. Hi, it would be packed well before shipping, if You prefer I can separate the neck from body. If I can source locally a small case that it will fit in I will get one for the shipping with no additional charge.

I am not sure about the weight, but it's definitely light - will measure it as soon as possible.

I am based in Sofia, Bulgaria.

    Cheers

  6. THE BASS IS SOLD

Decided to sell my Musicmaster because I can't get used to the short scale.

The lacquer is original – wine trans red over ash body. It is more reddish (dark red) in person than in the photos. The serial number suggests its made in 1978, but since S78 number are used as late as 1981, I cannot be 100% sure and would appreciate an expert opinion based on the photos. Other than that the bass is fitted with Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarterpounder which is screwed directly to the body – not hanging from the pickguard. The pickguard is a custom made white pearloid guard – small holes have been prepared for adjusting the pickup height or in case it should be hooked to the pickguard rather than the body wood.

Some previous owner has made some modifications - moved the pickup towards the neck and drilled the body, but has since filled the cavity and sprayed over with similar colour (its all under the pickguard and can be seen in the additional photos in the link bellow). Otherwise the original lacquer on the body and the neck is in pretty nice shape – usual checking and some small dings shown in the photos.

Other than the above the pickguard screws and two of the bridge screws seem not to be original. Apart from that the bass plays just sweet – I have used it at a couple of gigs and it sure fits in the mix much like a precision. Frets have been professionally dressed and have plenty of life in them, the bass is currently set up with Fender shortscale roundwounds which are a bit loose – if its fit with regular scale strings the strings are tighter and the action can be set to extremely low. The truss rod works fine, the tuners operate smoothly, the pots are fine. Although the pickup is not designed for this string spacing I cannot hear different output level from the inner and outer strings – the sound even. If someone would prefer a sound sample, I suppose I can record something next week and post it.

More hi-res photos of the bass can be found here: https://plus.google....CL73xNeUgdytwgE

  7. My custom '57 and my Duck Dunn twins:

And although I love the look of anodized guards, I hate the feel of touching them (can't explain why, it just doesn't feel right). Therefore I have sprayed a clear coat over the guard of my custom '57 since its a luthier made and I can't devalue it by doing so. Pity I can't do so with my Fender made precisions, at least my good sense restricts me from doing so.

    For Chris Horton........

    OK, a hastily taken shot with my iphone, after work;

    '53 build; '82 JV; '60 P ;'66 Slab build
    '61 J
    '52 P; '58 P; '66 Slab; '68 Tele

Rick, I am blown away and speechless ....... and envious (in a good way)! You are a great man and true preserver of the Fender legacy!

P.S. Please, excuse my pathos, but it's genuine - I am speechless

  9. I know the title sounds a bit weird but a while back I saw a butchered 1978 Peavey T40 in a pawn shop (half the body had been chopped off) and decided to save it from the misery:

My initial idea was to make a new body body to its original specs, but the damn thing was so heavy and since I am not a huge fan of the sound of swamp ash (which in my experience is usually the lightest possible option), decided to go with alder. Despite the latter my bass tech finally choose to make it from basswood and did not inform me but it turned out nice. On the other side I am no huge fan of multiple pickups so decided to leave only one in the sweet spot, which automatically reminded me of the cabronita fender bass. This brought out the '51 precision body shape, and as one thing leads to another (and since I am a huge fan of Dusty Hill and his crazy goldish '51p custom variations) decided to go with a gold finish. Here's the result:

Of course the guys from the local paint shop claimed the above to be Shoreline Gold and in a way I don't believe it is but nevertheless I do like the final result (please, excuse my terrible photography skills):

Sound wise I am more than satisfied - sounds a bit like a P on steroids but with a different vibe and since all my other basses are precisions its nice to have something a bit different. And please, Peavey purists, do not crucify me, I've kept all the other parts and one day intend to make another body to original specs and return it to its original 70's glory.

  10. From left to right - '78 mij Morris, '98 Duck Dunn signature, '84 mij Squier SQ series and a custom luthier made to my specifications '57. The first three are completely stock with original cases, case candy and hang tags. What can I say - I am one happy man!
  11. Just bought an Ampeg PF500 from Ed.

Ed's a real pleasure to deal with, great communication, a real gent. I do recommend dealing with him, so trade with confidence!
