1. Yeah. I'd go with the guy who said about the cramped small pub stage area.

I usually have just about enough space to move one step in each direction. Very cramped - and I find wireless helps me to be uncluttered with less danger of standing on it or the cable pulling something else over.

It's not a money thing to me. I have the loot - so I buy the stuff I want or need. It's a bit like my TV control. I remember the very early remotes which were wired ..... a bloomin big cable trailing from the telly to my seat on the sofa. Nobody in their right mind would want that - so why would I want the same when on stage?

  2. I had a big long debate with a guy on another forum who really has a big issue with what he calls "hobby musicians" ruining the market for proper professionals.

I can sort of see what he means. Fees at venues, in times like these, are driven down by all kinds of factors - including those who play for a low fee because they either can or want to.

He thinks it should be for the money.

I ..... in a utopian way .... think it should be for the "art". Meaning, I think musicians should try to entertain the audience. I think there are too many artists or bands who seem to be doing it for themselves.

I think bands should work hard on doing something that is unique or at least very, very good within their own genre, that is suited to the venue(s) they are playing.

Then, if applied correctly, that should attract the right kind of fee.

  3. SOLD - Or at least it will be soon, so no longer available on here and or / at this price.

Selling my Steinberger Synapse XS-1FPA headless bass.

Comes with both the fitted Status flat wounds and a spare set of round wounds.

Not a mark on it and comes with the manufacturer's gig bag.

Bargain price as I want to use some cash to purchase another Bose L1 PA column. These are £749 in GAK etc.

It's an active bass in matt black with 4 strings - and no headstock!

I have used this as my backup bass for most of this year - getting it out for the odd song or set here and there - but it hasn't had much use as I am a Precision player really.

It fits into the car just fine and has been there for me just in case I break a string.

It's really versatile. You can get lots of sounds out of it .... from a reasonable mimic of a Precision to a double bass thud.

It always creates a bit of a stir and attracts loads of questions at gigs when I use it - as it's kinda cool and out there.

I have also used it quite a bit to learn songs by the computer - it's so light and easy to use.

You can find out more about it here http://www.steinberger.com/XS1FPA.html

  4. I bought these in ear monitors new from Thomann about 18 months ago, tested them at home once (they work a treat) packed them away and haven't used them since!

    And now I have a Bose L1 PA - so I don't need them.

Come with everything. Case, transmitter, receiver, original headphones, rack bracket, aerial, aerial extension etc.

£100 - happy to pack them and send wherever if you cover the cost.

  5. My black Jack Casady bass is up for sale.

It's in the same condition as it was when I got on here earlier this year.

Great condition. Nothing whatsoever wrong with it.

Comes with flat wound strings PLUS a spare set of roundwounds if you prefer them.

Also, with the Epiphone hard case.

Great bass ....... I just have too much equipment and I'm having a bit of a slim down.

Happy to wrap it if you want to arrange a courier.

These are the pics provided by the last guy to sell it - hope he doesn't mind. It's in the exact same condition as it was then.

  6. Did he ever get sorted? As I have one of these http://www.roland.co.uk/products/productdetails.aspx?p=698 with a flight case that I'm just in the process of putting on her via the for sale section ..... when I figure out how to pay the £20 or whatever.

  7. I tune my USA P, with Rotosounds on, before each gig and never have to tune it between songs.

I'm quite an aggresive pick player too.

We usually do two sets and I always check before the 2nd set, just in case one of the tuners got knocked - but it's always bang on.

I usually take a Steinberger Synapse as a compact backup base - and although I always check it before I use it ..... I don't think I have EVER had to touch one of the tuning knobs since I bought it .... amazing technology those Steinbergers.

  8. It says at the start of the trailer that "In 40 years, rush has only ever performed as a trio".

I don't think that's true! Did they not used to have that Hugh Syme guy - or somebody similar - on stage playing some keyboards in the 80s?

Rush experts, please shoot me down if necessary - but I at least thought that was the case.

I will be deffo getting the DVD mind you. Yet another bass player who is definitely NOT playing as a backing musician to a guitarist. Win!

Naked admiration thread for no other reason than this hallowed portal allows me to do so.

there are bits in this song that make me glad to enjoy and try and play the bass.

On a related note, I have a young man doing a gig in the school where I work who is playing and singing 'I don't need no doctor" this week. Privilege to accompany him.

I'm not real keen on this kind of bass playing. Yeah, he looks super proficient and all ..... but what we see here is a bass player being a backing artist for a guitarist. Not keen on that. I prefer the bass to be right up there and in your face - up there with the guitar and vocals as an equal partner ........ like Lemmy, JJ, Phil Lynott and Bruce Foxton (when he was in the The Jam).

He was good in Wherever I Lay My Hat Though ....... the bass was right up there with the lead vocal as the two equally most important instruments in that song y'see.

  10. Do this:

  11. This is a great test. Well done.

I have never liked the sound of a Jazz bridge pickup - too trebly for me. Also, I don't like slap (either the look or sound of it) - so I'm focusing my comments on the neck pickups.

I luuuuurve the sound of all of the Jazz basses in this one. It's very close, but if I had to choose one, I'd have the JB 76. Proper Jazz sound that.

I was underwhelmed by nearly ALL of of the Un-Fenders. I didn't like the Sadowsky sound. Too thin and brittle to me. The Music Mans sounded too plinky - probably okay if you are a slap player, but not for me.

The Yamaha made a good sound mind you. The Pedula was a bit "muffled" sounding.

    Good test.

  12. To be honest, your going to struggle playing small to medium venues with a drummer using the Ashdown 180. And be careful, you'll need an 8 Ohm cab to get all of those watts. You'll possibly get only 100 watts with an 8 Ohm cab. That's not going to be enough.

Why is it that meat-eaters often resort to "humour" when they encounter a veg*n? Perhaps what we have to say might make you feel a bit uncomfortable so you try to deflect attention away from the real issues?

Guys, the jokes are crap and pointless. Please leave it out, we've heard them all before.

Indeed. They just don't want a ham-fisted bass player. What's wrong with that?
