Ah, the Comedy. The only gig I did where not only were the originals bands not paid (which is fairly common) but were told (just before going on stage) that we had to pay £5 per amp if we wanted to use the back line we were told would be provided for us. How we laughed!

Take it out of my fee, yeah?

  2. Band 4 only.

Band 1 won't be gigging, so no thanks.
Band 2 looks good but they don't know the difference between "enquiry" and "inquiry", so no thanks.
Band 3 could be promising but don't know how to use hyphens, apostrophes or capital letters, so no thanks.

ps. does "playing out" mean gigging? I've not heard it used in this context before, it usually means minimally-supervised communal kids street playtime here.

Thanks! Keep your eyes on that link, I'll refresh it a week or so before the gig.

Done! Although the link is now... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/262929-jazz-fusion-evening-in-at-tooting-tram-social-sw17-thursday-march-3rd/

  4. A bit of a different flavour to this month's On Broadway gig at the Tooting Tram & Social - as usual my band Velcro Pelmet will be appearing, but we'll be first on in support of prog band The Far Meadow, who will be doing a 90 minute headline set, starting at 9.30pm. VP will be on about 8.15pm, doors at 7pm. As usual it's free to get in, and the beer's good!

The evening's facebook event is at https://www.facebook.com/events/1681630498776880/

Highgate really is another world... I walked through there at the weekend and it was all mock tudor gated communities

I like to think it's as much to keep them in as to keep us out

Dulwich is ridiculous. The village is home to some of the biggest snobs in London, the whole place is a giant toff's club. I can't wait to move away from this area. 2 more weeks and I'm out of here.

You're not going to Highgate are you?

  7. The Crown & Greyhound is shut for a refurb at the moment, so I suspect Fullers are jumping at the chance to get some of their clientele.

Also, here's well known restaurant critic and local resident Jay Rayner and his investigations on Dulwich Estate and the wider situation in the area: http://www.jayrayner.co.uk/news/dulwichcollege/

  8. Someone's list of the top 18 concept albums of the 21st century. I've not heard any of it, apart from the title track of American Idiot.

    http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/lists/2010/11/the-18-best-concept-albums-of-the-21st-century-so-far.html

Shame they couldn't think of two more and make it a top 20.
