1. For the uninitiated among you, grab anything by Michael Franti & Spearhead - Carl Young's bass work is just perfect. Check out the "Stay Human" album for some marvellous soul/funk grooves that certainly, um, "flick my switch". Right now I am mostly listening to the frighteningly cool basswork on "The Message" by Cymande. Yum.
2.
Yep, I'm in Edinburgh too - a transplanted Weegie! Andy
And another transplanted Weedgie living in Edinburgh here as well...! Welcome.
3. Right this very minute, "Only So Much Oil In The Ground" by Tower of Power. Groovy.
4. This has just reminded me how much of an influence Norwood Fisher and Muzz Skillings were on me - thay basically got me into 5 string. As for solos, well thinking back to my funk metal days, here are the solos that opened my eyes to what was possible when i started playing.... Fishbone - Bonin In The Boneyard Living Colour - Under Cover of Darkness/Times Up (incredible playing!/Funny Vibe Primus - *that* solo in Tommy The Cat, Fish On or Those Damn Blue Collared Tweekers Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love Trilogy/Naked in the Rain/Aeroplane Suicidal Tendencies - Send Me your Money....which leads straight onto... ...Infectious Grooves - Therapy/Stop Funk'n With My Head Mordred - The Strain oh and Iron Maiden - Run To the Hills They all have a proper "solo" section, but I suppose you could argue that these were all pretty bass heavy to begin with! 5. That is just tremendous - full marks. One day i'll tell you where the name came from, in the meantime nice to be here...!
6. Just a quickie to say hi, spotted this site the other day and thought i'd be silly not to join in. Edinburgh based and been playing for about 15 years (5 string for about 9) anything from indie to R&B to metal to funk to, well, currently i'm thoroughly enjoying playing someone else's tunes for a change in a good old fashioned rock covers band. Looking forward to being here - cheers guys. C
