1. volume can't be measured in terms of power, you have a trade in of amount of speakers and power. you could easily cover your needs with 100w if you don't mind carrying some big, heavy, efficient speaker cabs. If you have more money though, you can make smaller speakers make as much sound as a less powerful amp with more (larger) cabs.

2.
I also got laughed at in Coventry for playing a very old school looking Matamp by some screamo kids with Marshall Valvestate heads. I won.
they didn't know their stuff then.

a while ago there was a band playing in my (may aswell be living room) local and the cones on their pa were almost completely made out of duct tape, have to say, that got them pretty high on my cool-o-meter.

3. Over the years ive practiced in all sorts of places from a small barn to massive function halls to expensive floating room studio set-ups.
Finding decent practice can sometimes be a pain in the arse because the drummer i mostly work with finds it impossible to play quietly, forcing the rest of the band to play at near gig level, so alot of places have had complaints.

where do you guys get your rehearsals in? and how much do you usually pay to use the practice space?

4. Sometimes, for me, it works the other way around. If i see someone using some old beaten up gear that would cost next to nothing, but isn't brand new Chinese tat, I have some respect for them.

also if i see a nice beefy rack i have a pre-concieved notion that the user knows his stuff.

5. ive spent most of the last 5 years playing a washburn force 4 which has a chop stick for a neck, now i've had my ATK for a month and ive almost exclusively played that. It has a pretty chunky MM style neck and i get on with it great. everytime i play the washburn i'm impressed by how skinny the neck is... but i wouldnt be able to choose between the two neck wise, the only reason i play the atk more is a combination of better pickup and strings (ordered a set of flats for the washburn). So either i just get allong with most types of necks or i just havnt spent enough time with my basses to develop an opinion / preference.

6. i'm not really sure how much these usually go for, never had my eye on them...
but this seems like a killer deal for such a powerhouse "svt killer"

7. that was the initial plan, and i still might do that if one comes up but i'm having a bit of trouble finding one close to me and i'm thinking a single larger cab would be easier to transport, chances are that i'll still just get another cab, but ive put this out just to see some other options.

edit: actually, theres a perfect cab on ebay at the moment

8. Well i'm being all indecisive.
I love the tone of my v-type combo, but my band is ridiculously loud and on mid sized venues up, i'm pushing the amp a bit hard as it it.
so i have 2 options, get an extension cab or go for my long term gas, a 4x10 with a terror bass.

so i'm putting this out there just as a feeler to see what my options are, cab wise i'm after a 1 cab solution, a 4x10 or loud 2x12 or similar.
head wise i'd like a terror bass (with a bit of cash your way) or a similar vintage voiced (preferably lightweight) head.

The amp is 280w @ 4 ohms with 2 tubes in the preamp (i think its 2 12ax7's) and it has a lovely creamy tube sound and can get pretty growly when you crank it, ridiculously loud for the size of it. But i'm sure you all know about these combos anyway.

i can put cash in if the right deal arrises.
cheers.

9. 18 and own that kind of collection? i envy you, alot. i'd kill for a wal.

i'm 18, been playing for about 5 years but was never really that bothered by gear until a few months ago (incidentally the same time i became a member on here)

until recently my only playable bass was a washburn force 4 and i had an ashdown mag600 head w/ 210 and 115 cabs.

now i've got myself an atk300 and v-type combo.

first bass was a stagg crapp-o-goth bass and its was just horrible, its now in peaces in the corner of the room.

10. i dont really see how thats been modified for a bass, you can get the baritone version cheaper: here
and as far as i can see... its just a case of re-stringing with bass vi strings, maybe have to modify the nut.

11. i havnt seen any arse-ness from him. The press seems to hate him because of a couple of offensive things he's said about people like Jessica Simpson.. and letting the N-word slip, but in the same shoes i'm sure i'd be in deeper sh*t by now. From what ive seen he seems to be a genuinely funny and sincere guy.
