ive (unfortunately) been in plenty of bad nightclubs where they're set up directly at the crowd... so they get away with it... but no idea on actual safety or legality of the issue.

i have some old thick (like 4mm) rubber pick that came with my 1st bass. always hated them because there was no note definition, much prefer using my fingers and a pick for songs that are better suited for the sound / better attack. I can't imagine the leather ones being much different to be honest, but its all about personal preference, you might love them.

i'll add fleetwood mac and the john mayer trio to mine too... although Pino would be a hard act to follow.

i'd say in the past, Thin lizzy, led zep and sublime.
right now though i'd give my right (leg) to b in any number of bands
top of my list being karma to burn, kylesa and the ocean though, could have some serious fun with those guys.

i made a bass for my a-level, but did it pretty much all off the bat, came out pretty well, except for the neck being much more 50's p than i'm used to.

i didnt become a member on the forums until i was pretty much finished ..... I wish i had before i started because its a massive source of knowledge.

the best place i can think of to be honest to start is to start reading through lots of build threads.... there are hundreds over at talkbass that serve pretty much as a step by step tutorial.

and of course completely plan and design ever aspect of the bass before you start. i made the mistake of starting before i had all of my hardware in hand, which meant i had a lot of holdups while i waited for things like nuts, bridges and pickups to arrive so that i could build the bass according to them.

you just hit the nail on the head, bugera is actually part of behringer, just rebranded to try and shed some of the bad notions associated with the name.

it says it protects against uv too... so could maybe stop fading too.

you can get clear films that are made to protect car bodywork from stone chips and stuff.... i'm guessing it must be pretty hard wearing. maybe worth a try?

wow, thats an amazing price, and its no doubt lighter than my current 4x10.
just can't justify it though.

i'm not sure how resistant to sweat it is... but when i was at school we used to use double sided tape to attach sheets of acrylic onto boards for the cnc machine... stuck like a bitch, definitely enough for a pick guard, especially onto a glossy painted surface like a bass.

edit: it will leave residue when take off though, need tar remover or something similar to get the stuff off.

no it shouldn't do.

another option if you would rather not drill permanent holes is to just use some double sided tape to stick it on. that way you can remove it and have it just like new.

i don't know anything about the horn box... but the bright box has a high pass filter which presents a high impedance so it can be used with 2 other cabs without killing the amp... if i remember rightly, for some reason the bright box is stated as being 8ohm too, so maybe the horn box works in the same way... if not then you would only be able to use it with one other cab :/

the way you said of linking them should work because trace (and everyone else i think) wires the link plugs as parallel with the inputs so it basically works exactly like plugging it straight into the amp, just with a shorter lead.

at a guess.. yes? i sold my macbook about a year ago to get an imac so i'm hazy on that one. i've started to use my boss gt6b with some (if i do say so myself) pretty good results. if your amp has a line out then that would work too, less hassle getting an appropriate lead. The only pain in the arse that i've encountered when using the line in is that the threshold of distortion is very low, you can have a great level then just a little bit more volume or harder playing will cause some horrible clipping. to overcome this i've started using a compressor in all my recording.

some people say that for decent results you need a dedicated firewire/usb preamp but the soundcards on macbook and imacs are pretty good imo. I (and people that i've worked with) have gotten really good (well as good as di can get) results just using a preamp straight into the line in. if you have an amp that you like that has a di out then a di to jack cable would work (with a mini jack addapter) otherwise any preamp would do really.

i have no idea about how to beg a balanced xlr di but for an unbalanced you could just wire it in parallel with the jack output.

from my experience the only compact camera that has a good enough mic for live music is a sony. i've had 3 and they all did pretty well.


that was recorded (by my Dave Grohl obsessed mam) on a little 5 year old sony t10. aswell as the other vids on my channel. i've had more expensive samsung and other cameras but none have had half as good sound quality for videos.

I usually don't understand what people see in hardcore / sludge etc...

but i just can't stop listening to kylesa.
i find the use of dual drummers and the vocals mesmerising.

well i have to say, i'm very impressed. They perform exactly how they say, the same sounds but quieter. except for the fact that my bass tone seemed to be alot more clearer and i could pick myself out of the mix alot better than without the plugs in. I did have to take the plugs out for a while at practice though because we where doing a nit of writing and i couldn't really hear what me or anyone else was saying.

the screw from my standard strap button on one of my basses lost all of its bite, i just pit a bit of superglue in the hole and placed it in there, its worked really well, ain't gona come out any time soon. just make sure that you di it first the right time, its not really repeatable .
