1. I think it really depends. I think most mix engineers will cry if you turn up with rusted old strings. It's easier to dull down a sound than it is to add sparkle. I always ask bands to turn up with new strings on their instruments no sooner than a day before recording so they can play with them a bit and settle on their instrument.
2.
Okay, I'll admit that I'm a little biased but check these out.
I'm looking for pickups for a bass just now.. I loved all of those tones!
3. You think it'll mix well with the Quarter Pound Precision pickup? Thanks again for the help
4. Wonder how this will compare to the RBI? I've got an RBI and I'm a little bit underwhelmed by it.
5. See a couple of posts up guys, I've gone for a Fender Jazz Bass and I'm going to modify it to take the Precision pickup. I'm just wondering what pickups to get for it now. Planning on going for the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound set Cheers
6. Cheers for the help guys. I'm pretty sure I've sorted myself a bass now. What is the recommendation for an even sound from the pickups? I have an SX Precision just now with a Fender USA Pickup in it which I like. I'm really considering going for Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders unless there's a reason not to get them?
7. Thanks for the suggestions. How good are the Overwater basses? I'm leaning towards the modification of a Fender MIM Jazz at the moment. There's a rather good tech/luthier around here that could do the work for me. Cheers
8. Thanks for the suggestions guys, it's not a Precision with a PJ pickup combo I'm after, it's a Jazz with a PJ pickup combo. Cheers.
9. Hello, I'm a bit of a lurker around here and I'm looking for some info/tips/advice from this community. I'm a six stringer, so my knowledge of bass guitars is a little rusty. I currently own an SX Precision bass that I bought on this forum. I quite like the sound it has but I've never been overly keen on the looks of the Precision. I find the neck a little bit on the wide side. I've played several Jazz basses and loved the neck and I actually really like the look of them. I'm not overly fussed on the Jazz sound though. So, I'm looking to get a Jazz bass with a Precision neck pickup and a Jazz bass bridge pickup (just for the added option if I need it) I've looked all over the place for a Fender with this sort of combination in it. The Aerodyne falls into this category, but it's bare look has never appealed to me at all. I've always liked the Jazz bass with the pickguard on. Is there anything out there in £4-500 range that fulfills my needs or am I going to have to get a nice Jazz and route it out? (I'm looking second hand as it turns out) I've seen the Squier Jags and Fender MP Jags with the PJ combo but it's not what I'm looking for. I'm open to other companies that fall into the price range/looks/pickup combo I'm after. I'm just not sure what's hot and what's not. Many thanks for any suggestions J
10. That is a rather excellent looking strat. Only wish I had the funds available. Consider this a free bump
11. Selling my MD421, it's a great mic but I'm barely using it enough to keep it around these days. It comes in it's Sennheiser case which isn't in original condition, although it does keep it from getting beat up. The mic itself has seen better days, the grill is a little bashed and someone had written/carved DDH 18 on the top of it before I got it. I've no idea why. None of these things affect its performance, but if you like your gear like new, I'd look away from this. I've never had any problems with the mic, has worked a charm. Used it on loads of sources. Bass amps, toms, kick drums and guitar cabs, never let me down and it always gave me nice results. I don't need to sell the mic, but I figure if someone can make use of it then I'd be willing to let it go to a new home. The clip works. I've seen 421 in worse condition than this fetching crazy prices on eBay, so.. based on that, I'd say £185 is a decent price, although I'm open to negotiating or even trading for some other mics. I don't need SM57's or tom mics, I am looking for something for room micing though, so if there's a decent condenser on the go, I could be keen. Some pictures.
12. I'm talking about the width across the nut. On a Jazz neck it's usually 38mm and on a Precision neck it's usually 42mm.
