Musicman SR5 Squeal?

I wonder if any other mm owners have come across this weird prob.
When you push a string downward onto a pick up pole piece it gives the customary `thump` when amplified.
However when you make contact between the `G`string and the rear pole piece on my SR5 pick up there is a shrill squeal then the whole bass goes silent for about a second, after which the volume fades back in over a 2 to 3 second period.Obviously this is not part of my usual technique but there are times when you`re playing a very loud, stoaccato piece when this may accidentally occur.I`ve sent this also to mm`s tech dept ,but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this.I could lower the height of pick up but I`m happy where it currently is.I could put a bit of physical non-coductive shielding on pole piece but I`d rather just get rid of problem altogether.
Is this a pick up problem or an active eq problem.
Anyone else experience this?
