ronswanson Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I'm looking for some advice on how to re-finish an area of a jazz neck I have. It came to me with a crack apparently professionally repaired. The crack has got a little worse, so I glued and clamped. After sanding back smooth the wood is a bit grey-pink when dry. When wet it's dark. Can it be stained to get closer to the original colour? I'll probably ending up replacing the neck but for now I just want to get it back together to test it out. Dry Wet Quote
ronswanson Posted Friday at 16:49 Author Posted Friday at 16:49 I saw a suggestion to use light oak wood stain so might give that a try. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Friday at 17:50 Posted Friday at 17:50 I think light oak will be far darker than your 'wet' image. Try a thin coat of varnish first. Quote
ronswanson Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago Here it is after two thin coats of clear varnish - less pink but still very grey (I think my phone camera is adding red tones) 1 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Maybe mix in a very small amount of amber stain with a compatible varnish. Quote
