Hi all

Im thinking of re stringing my thumb 5 1996 with the original brass nut to E A D G C as i am moving towards using bass as a more solo instrument. Have just ordered som warwick red strings a 5 set inc a top C in the following dia 100 80 60 40 20. Does anyone know if the existing original nut will accept this guage or will i need a new nut.

Guess a 6 string would be ideal but funds do not allow at present.

Happy new year all

I Have restrung fivers a few times with no need for a nut change. As long as the bottom of the nut slots are rounded the new strings should sit in them just fine. You might have to adjust the setup of the neck profile and intonation. You can also buy a four string set and a separate C string to save having a spare B.
