What is it? and what colour?

Greetings.

Ive had a particular jazz bass since 2002. I acquired it from the singer of a punk band that I later joined with moderate success. When I bought this particular bass, It looked like this:

Covered in so much muck, paint, stickers, sweat, piss, the lot. The badass bridge and Fender hard case was a bonus too. Naturally, once it was mine I stripped it and gave it the once over with some varnish I had to hand; and it spent the last 10 years or so looking like this:

A rough and ready job, but acceptable; and kept the sweat out of the wood for dozens of gigs.

Thing is, this bass plays better than any jazz I've ever held. It plays better than my '73. Seriously. The neck is fast and fluid, and it sounds amazing. Ive always had my doubts about it's origin, as there's not a serial number to be found.

Anyway, I've taken a turn and had decided a while ago to refinish the body. It currently looks like this:

Ive always wondered about this one...The fantastic neck and reverse tuners lead me to believe that it's old, but the battered string though body makes me believe that it's not. This frankenbass is a real joy to play, even if it is a mongrel.

Im at a loss at the moment as to what to do now. Shall I just clear coat it again? Or maybe give it some colour?

Thoughts?
