Wiring for active P Bass Lyte output jack?

Folks, I've been playing my P Bass lyte for the past 15 years with the battery continually draining and have decided now is about time to stop pulling the battery out at the end of every jam or gig and get the soldering iron out to fix the darn thing. Problem is, after researching for the last two hours I am still uncertain as to where the three wires go on the two terminals on the output jack.

The image shows:

the black wire coming from the battery going to the socket terminal

the white wire coming from the circuitry board labelled "out" and on to the terminal that is part of the tip

the exposed (coming from the grey casing) wire yet to be put somewhere.
So the question is, where does the exposed third wire go? With the black or the white?

Looking forward to some knowledge greater than mine here!

Cheers,
Knokker

You have the wrong jack socket there. A stereo one should be acquired so that the three terminals it carries will enable the battery to be disconnected when unplugging. The grey lead looks like it should contact the earth point of the new jack, the white to the tip, leaving the battery connecting to the 'middle' terminal of the stereo jack socket.
