iconic Posted August 28, 2013 Share Posted August 28, 2013 T'was reading about Fender during the '80's, seems very messy era indeed, old odds and sods bolted together, weird serial numbering, strange short order runs, differing opinions on weather heel end or neck end adjusters per year/per bass.... the usual guff. ... then I found a few references to 1985-1987 with Fender U.S. building NO bass's whilst production was being transferred & Fender being sold. Any U.S. Std Fenders actually being made in Japan but with US neck decals. mart Posted August 28, 2013 Share Posted August 28, 2013 When CBS sold Fender the sale didn't include the factory, so the team that bought the company (based on Fender Japan) did not have the facilities to produce any instruments in the US. So for around a year (1985ish) there were NO Fenders produced in America - they were all produced in Japan. iconic Posted August 28, 2013 Author Share Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) thanks for that just been reading that in the early 80's Fender US head hunted three Yamaha US guys to try and turn Fender around, theses guys found that Fender production stds were so poor they went out and bought 3 examples from the 50/60's to take dimensions etc...Fender buying back old Fenders!
