Morning all,

Just listening to some festive Faith No More this morning, King For A Day album. I was just hit full in the face by the bass tone - a quick look at Wikipedia suggests this was Billys fingers playing a Zon bass through an Ampeg. Anyone able to add any more information, which Ampeg or which Zon, with which settings?

Cheers, and Happy Christmas to everyone :)

Billy uses a custom Zon Sonus bass with a body made of poplar ( rather than the usual ash used for a Sonus )that has a Precision pickup inside a humbucker casing in the neck position and a humbucking Jazz pickup at the bridge , and he also has a Zon Legacy Elite that he uses very occasionally . He has used Ampeg , but also Peavey and Genz Benz amps and cabs in various mix and match combinations . I've also seen him using Trace Elliot , but that was a very long time ago when everybody used Trace Elliot . He also relies heavily on the Fulltone Bass Drive pedal , which probably gives him a lot of his grit and dirt .

According to the FNM FAQ page

* Zon Sonus bass
* Bartolini P/U's
* 2 Peavey CS1200 Power Amps
* Peavey TB Raxx preamp
* Sans-Amp PS-21
* Dbx 166 Compressor
* 2 Peavey 15" cabs
* 2 Peavey 8x6 (?) cabs

And if you have a butchers on YouTube there's a live American tv performance of 'Ricochet' from around 1995-ish and he got some Peavey cabs behind him.
