These pianos, player-pianos and grands are manufactured by a division of the Goldsmith Piano Co. of Chicago, an industry of utmost responsibility. The Smith & Nixon Piano Company was one of Cincinnati's premier piano manufacturers during the late 19th and early 20th century. Thus, the nameplate showing both Cincinnati and Chicago. Smith & Nixon owned and controlled a handful of other makers including Ebersole and Goldsmith Piano Companies. Ebersole and Goldsmith were marketed as affordable alternatives to the costlier Smith & Nixon brand instruments. Smith & Nixon brand pianos were sold as the firm's top of the line, highest grade instruments. Because of their high prices, they were only built in modest numbers and are a bit rare today. The firm was out of business by 1931 due to The Great Depression. There are only a handful of Smith & Nixon instruments left and are of consistently superior quality. Smith & Nixon even made a Abraham Lincoln souvenir piano with Lincoln carved in the front panel for the Columbian Exhibition in 1895. Smith & Nixon pianos have held a place very high in the esteem of discriminating musical people and, under present conditions, their position will be maintained. Full set of 52 real keys, not 50 keys as some were Double leg for stability, quality and prestige Restrung and tuned; no work needed Not the original bench, but works with the piano and included in sale.
