    Hi, Just fitted a Hipshot D-tuner to my Warwick thumb, but because of the orientation of the machine heads it doesn't go all the way down to D because it keeps hitting the G machine head and doesn't open all the way. Consequently it down tunes to just below Eb. Any advice?? Shall I send it back or can I fix this in some way myself…? Cheers, J

    Done and dusted. I'll get the new pix up soon. I don't care what anyone says about these 'old' Korean PS Warwicks….These feel and sound better than my expensive 2005 Thumb and my Kubicki. A lot thicker and much more variable. Better necks. Brighter with maple. The curved bodies are much more comfortable. The Thumb comes out top. Streamer is a back up really. The Sterling is for RnR purposes.

    Great, thanks for sharing. My decision is now cemented! If I had that Streamer from bass direct, I'd spend most of my gig with my back to the audience just to show off the back of the neck!

    Sorry if this sounds like a daft question but I've been scouting the world wide cyber interweb to try and find a black Thumb with gold hardware. And I can't see to find one... Purely for aesthetic reasons I want to change my hardware on my Nirvana Black PS Thumb to gold for extra bling. The chrome looks pretty good but when you've got to do it, you've got to do it... I've tried photoshopping some pix of my own (!) but it's not quite the same. Anyone got any pix to help out?

    Hi all, I've been running this as a extension cab alongside my Genz Benz CT500. Great so far, but I'd like a smaller head to go with the PJB so I can use it as a mini rig. But I understand PJB cabs can sap power (volume) from non-PJB heads. As you can probably tell that even after 25 years of playing bass, I've never really got to grips with the technical side of amps and cabs! I've always chosen by ear. Am I right in assuming this about PJB cabs? I've been considering a TC RH450 as it's got all the features I need and is small enough to fit in my gig bag. Cheers PS The Ex Factor has now gone to a good home, and replaced with two Warwicks and a Sterling. But I'm keeping the name and avatar in its honour...

    All, We are few and far between now after the sad death of Phil. He made the best bass guitars on the planet; as Rob Green does now. Long may Phillip Kubicki's work, design, and sound be his legacy. Just going to test the water with this. If you have seen my bass then you will know I had mine taken back to the wood by Jon Shuker who resprayed it in Benson and Hedges/Vauxhall blue! The pickups were redone at Electro in Doncaster. Finally it was finished in antique white in North Yorkshire by a luthier and friend Adam Robinson who made my scratchplate to my specs. Sadly Adam has since died from cancer. Hence this post. I can provide a template for this exact scratchplate. On paper. You can take it as it is, photocopy it, throw it away, or design your own from it...     And...bingo. Mike replied within minutes with very detailed instructions on how to go about fixing this. An adjustable spanner, a shim, and a bit of patience and we're back in business!! Thanks a million matski - you've helped to resurrect a brilliant bass. Very happy

    I'm looking for any help on buying replacement Kubicki Ex-factor parts, in particular the bridge posts. For some unknown reason three of the bridge posts won't turn in the retainers, meaning I can only adjust the action on one string now. The others only go so far down then wedge themselves and don't go any lower. They can only then be taken out with a pair of pliers (not good). I've tried cleaning them, swapping them around, WD40 etc but to no avail. Is there anyone who could suggest where I could get new posts, or retainers, where I can get them fixed, or even a replacement bridge.... As you can see it's getting a bit desperate as this bass is unusable at the moment. Since the very sad death of Phil Kubicki earlier this year, it seems like this may prove difficult. Any help please. Thanks

    Hey up everyone, Been away for a while due to family and work commitments but back on the bass horse again and with a new band. Picked up a Squier Vintage Fretless (Jaco style) a couple of months ago and it's immense! Replaced the old bridge with a Babicz and have a Fatfinger on the headstock. And it just sings...! Ordered a Squier Tele Bass Special off the back of the quality of that. Chomping at the bit to try it out. Anyone else fallen for the Squiers. Had a couple of Jazzes in the past (MIM and USA) but nowt compares funnily enough! For less than £300 a pop I might snap up another couple. (btw my Status and Kubicki are both back in shape. And back in their cases!) J

    Thanks for your replies. The Kubicki scratchplate was fitted by a small luthier in West Yorkshire called Adam Robinson. Very through and extremely well done. I sketched out a plan and he came back a couple of months later with a brand new antique white finish and scratchplate. It's a 9v model. The Status, again custom made in 2000. I am toying with the idea of downsizing to a MM Sterling or Fender Marcus Jazz and going back to basics with just one amp and a tuner!. Maybe keep my Sansamp BDDI for good measure. But I need an active cct as I play a lot of slap. Thought I'd open it up as I don't know the current state of the market...
