1. My first bass. Not anything special but if someone wants it for a project or anything I'd be happy to let it go for about £120, maybe/probably less. It's got one jazz pickup and one p-bass pickup. Don't really have a need for it now. In the words of Stevie Wonder, I'm moving on to higher ground - an American P bass.
Here's a pic of one. Mine has a small chip on the top of the body which is conveniently covered by the arm when playing!

2. Although I have never tried it myself, I can't imagine there would be any damage. The finish on basses is normally waterproof. If the bass wasn't plugged in I can't see the electrics being damaged either. As long as the bass isn't left wet then there shouldn't be a risk of rust or warping. Don't quote me on that though.

Guitard for someone who can fret w*** think they are brilliant, that everyone else comes second to the fact they are making a twat of themselves in front of everyone.

so for me it is not childish it actually has a place in the English language.
4. I'm thinking of a getting a Fender in the summer and thought since I'll only get about £100 for the old bass is it worth defretting it. Considering I'm not really very experienced in this sort of thing is it a good idea? Suggestions please. It's an Aria IGB-40 btw, bought for £180.

I really like the Cake version of I Will Survive:

6. I'm guessing you can tune by harmonics. You can use the 12th fret of what is normally the e string and the 12th fret of the d. Play the harmonic on both strings. You will hear fast oscillations. Flatten the e string till the vibrations slow. When you reach the right pitch they should totally stop and you have one continuous hum. To tune back play the harmonics on the fifth of the lowest string and the seventh of the a and tune up till the oscillations stop. Hope that makes sense.

7.
The MM is active for a start - and not a particularly good pre-amp judging by the one I tried a few years back. Are you talking about the US Standard - if so there is quite a lot of differences. The main ones being that US Standard has:

Passive electronics
High mass bridge
Through body stringing
Graphite re-inforced necks
Lightweight tuners
Typically an alder body (as opposed to Ash)
Comes with case
Thank you alanbass. Have you tried a standard USA jazz bass and which gets your vote
