wow am i the only one who thinks flea is MASSIVELY overrated? I mean hes not Jaco or Wooten =L
Flea may not have the technical prowess of Wooten, but I find his stuff much better to listen to, and I like the fact he uses the bass within the context of a band, ie. its not all about him. I think he deserves the praise he gets. -
Welcome. Flea was why I started too . There's some great bass covers of rhcp on youtube, have a look at the videos of davidsinrocks.

Well thats one way to encourage musicianship.
That guitarist was awful though, didn't know the song. -
Normally, the book has just notation, or it has notation with tab situated directly beneath, giving people (usually bass students ) the temptation to look at the tab when they start to struggle.
I'm guilty -
I don't have the sense to plan ahead and get new strings. Anyway, if I keep the stock ones till I really need new ones, it's like having the new bass experience twice in a row.
if you like Pear Jam, check out my band, you might like us as well
MMM, pear jam. Nice on toast. -
Could you make mp3s of some of your stuff? It's awesome!
Like someone trying to sell a £20 note for a tenner...
Was that a joke. Thats a good deal isn't it? -
You could easily have got a few nobs from the off-topic forum.

I like him as a musician. He's quite a good songwriter too. Can't judge on the nob front- i haven't met him.

A jazz quartet (if that's the correct name) - a drummer, a guitarist with a semi-hollow guitar, a trumpet player and a bassist with a red fennder jazz. I appreciated the music whilst having my pizza. Anyone know who they were?

Why?

Sometimes it's fun to play stuff outside of a band and you don't always play a very varied variety. Also, there's a lot of songs that help develop your skills like Marcus Miller's stuff. I wouldn't play that in the bands I'm in.

A lot less than your budget, but I would put forward the Fender Rumble 100 1x15 combo. Sounds amazing. Don't know if it's powerful enough for what you want but for 100W it sure is loud. Great sound too. I'm really pleased with mine.
FUN!! You haven't got time to have FUN!! Get to work....
I agree with clarky about having fun-I've only been playing for a year, and fun is the reason I play bass. I do agree with you in some respects Bilbo - I can see the usefulness of scales. Problem is, I find all that stuff so dull after having learnt violin up to grade six. One of my favourite things about learining bass is the fact that you can focus on songs and it's generally more fun than other instruments, mainly classical, which can be quite restricted. -

Would love to learn it but it's so bloody hard! -
I've heard quite a lot about bach. Could anyone suggest a starting point?
There is simply no such thing as a bassline that everyone 'should' know.
Stop being a spoilsport. I'm just asking people to suggest some basslines which they think are fun or help develop skill. I'm not suggesting that we force everyone to learn them.
I think I'll be learning "I want you back" in my bass lesson today. ty umcoo -
I hope this sort of thread hasn't been done before, if it has then my bad and can someone point me in the right direction. I'm looking for some songs to take a look at and would appreciate any suggestions, from any genre.

Nah, it's fine. But plec sounds a bit clumsy... Whether you should be using one is a whole other discussion
