Do you mean a specific course or just instructional DVDs in general? I always thought the Slap bass DVD by Ed Friedland as being one of the best for um Slap bass.

We do Don't let me Down - Beatles. Great song but its really grating on me. We are 3 piece and for some reason it just doesn't work, it doesen't feel fluid enough. So I changed the bass line so it fits more.

Anybody know how to do the tapping run just before the guitar solo. I'm not really very good at tapping and at the moment I'm flailing around on the fret board and not getting very far. My wife said I sounded like a giant wasp.

Got a baby and a stressful job so not as often as I like. I try and get in at least 3 hours a week plus a noodle in front of the TV. I look back at my uni days and can't believe I wasted so much time getting pissed and not practicing so I try and make every minute count.

String it with a B string?

Vintage are good basses, GAK are listing the above for 199 so not bad but I reckon go 2nd hand to go even cheaper!

All the right bassists are there I think. Its more of a favorite bassist list, and considering Dream theater posted a 'Vote for John myung' on their website at a time where Portnoy has just left they are bound to get lots of hits on their site and in extention Musicradar

I love watching cover bands (if they are good). Beats listening to what those kids by the pool table have put into the jukebox, or the landlady sticking on her favorite Simply Red CD. I have a freind that has played covers to thousands and had everyone on their feet. I had a covers band at my wedding, it cost over £1000 and they where by far the tightest and best musicians I have seen in a long time.

I love playing in a covers band, I get to take out all those songs I learned when i was growing as a bass player and play them live. We learned Spirit of Radio, Don't let me down, Knights of Cydnia and Australia the other day and rocked out. Can't wait to play them in a live situation where I have that pressure of perfmorming in front of an audience knowing that if I destroy the song I'll look like a pleb. And I love getting a good reaction from the audience, we're all enjoying the music together.

On the other hand I understand the need for a creative outlet and I play in a prog rock band. Changes are 90% of the UK population will hate it and the other 9% will think its 'alright'. And we certainly don't have a following. But I love it, though at the moment I prefer the covers band!

Does that make me an entertainer or a musician. They are the same thing aren't they?

Yamaha for me becasue I love my RBX JM2 and am gassing for a BB 414. However Ibanez do have more designs to choose from.

These things are always tricky, they should break this down by 'In Rock', 'In Jazz' etc... All the big names are there, just a bit out of order. I think Myung should be up there but not top. For me it would be between Geddy and Sheehan.

No one Knows can be tricky, firstly you either have to tune down or get a 5 string, and its best if you have a bit of overdrive too. Just started it with my band, I've learnt my parts but the other guys are busking it and it doesen't sound to great. If it doesent work then I think we'll just ditch it rather than murderig it live.

I've got to learn some manics which seem pretty easy. Try Australia, Design for Life and Roses in the Hospital.

Also Dakota by Sterophonics, I think its stolen the crown from With or wothout you as the wrolds simplest bass line.

Just don't hide the drugs in the cavity, first place they look and they may ruin your bass looking.

I have a 14 month old baby plus full time job and I'm finding it hard to practice. It would be easier to just sack it of but fortunatly I met a band where all the musicians are in the same boat. All the covers are really simple so not much practice is required and I still get to do a few gigs every now and again. I think it would be different if it was a regular covers or an originals band, I'd probably jack it all in due to pressure.

Keep a bass, store it our of sight and out of mind and get back to it when and if you feel ready.

Its worth having a cheapy one around. I have a P bass that I practice on in front of the TV, on the toilet, basically a bass I can just grab and not worry about denting it. The reason being I have a very curious 1 year old that makes a bee line when ever I get my bass out, so i have the cheap one lying around to snatch up for a quick noodle and I'm not fussed if he gets hold of. You've mentioned the Fleabass is staying so I guess that would suffice.

But in essence having one bass that I use for band rehersals and gigging works for me. Many people have different basses for tone but I play rock and I have a decent amp that can produce some great varied tones so it works for me. If I decided to be in a blues or Jazz band I'd defo get another bass more suited to that style.

Are you the one that moved to newcastle recently? Glad its all coming together.

Not a fan of level 42 but its a decent interview and even mentions bass which is rare for a Guitar site:
