Good luck with the sale! How is this still here?
Just chiming in to advise anyone who wants a UK made ABM EVO but prefers the regular, non rackable version that Ashdown can easily convert this particular unit. They did it for me when I ordered mine about a month ago.

No. If I take the dummy jack out nothing works. No preamp, no volume at all.
When I plug it back in everything works again.
Alright, then they are all the same. Thank you very much!

Mine works fine doing the following:
Bass into preamp IN.
Preamp OUT into amp RETURN.
Dummy jack lead or jack plug into input on amp.
That defeats the eq etc but volume works fine.
If you remove the dummy jack from the input does the external preamp still work?

I'll have a look at mine this afternoon.
Have you tried the send and returns, and both at once?
Thanks! Not both at once, but I have tried them both, it works exactly the same.

I think that's standard on the ABMs.
Either a headphone jack plug or cable. I think that defeats it's own pre amp?
I see. Defeating the preamp makes sense, what surprised me was that it also defeats the power section (which is bypassed when plugging an external preamp into the line input on the back).

Hi folks,
I have just bought an Ashdown ABM EVO IV that I love so far, there is something about it that I'm not sure whether to classify as a bug or a feature, though.
I have a couple of bass preamps that I wanted to try with the Ashdown power section. The thing is, irrespective of which line input I use (either line or fx return), the power section is mute unless I plug a cable into the instrument input on the front of the amp.
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour with their ABM? Thanks!

He's Slash's bass player, he released a solo album a few months ago. I liked this track and figured I'd add the drums and the bass lines myself.

I've had this for a while, but never bothered opening a thread about it. After playing it for a while, I think I should.
I was split between this one and a Sadowsky Jazz 5. I am happy I went Fender, the Sadowsky preamp sound is
too fusion-y for my taste, I find the highs not aggressive enough. It's not a bad sound at all, just not for me and
the mostly rock type of music I play. So back to the Fender. 12" fretboard radius with a nice round back of the
neck. Coming from the Marcus Miller 5 which is the opposite - 7.25" radius with a flat back of the neck, this is
a lot better. Very low action out of the box, it is so comfortable that it almost plays itself.
I mainly went from the MM5 to this because I wanted a wider tone range. The MM5 has an oversized ash body
giving it a very scooped sound which is perfect for lots of applications, but as I mostly play a P-90 Les Paul Jr
into a Marshall, there was a wide gap between the guitar and the bass in the mix. The CCJB5 fills it nicely with
its alder body and maple top. Most importantly, it doesn't sound like a typical 5 stringer, but more like a 4, with
plenty of definition on the B string.
A minor nitpick: the tuning keys (Schaller) feel very, very cheap. I've no idea what Fender were thinking, as these
are standard on all their Custom Shop 5ers. The Hipshots on the MM5 were way, way better (and better looking,
too). Given how much I like its sound, I'll let that one go.
I attached a short sample I recorded straight into the audio interface, without any effects or amp sims used. The
playing is not great, though, I am a guitar player after all

you can just sell the original preamp ?
[/quote]
No, sorry. I'd rather include it in this sale so that whoever buys the bass has a choice. -
Yes, the stock preamp is included in the sale, it's in the case.
