  1. Hi: Is anyone here familiar with the Wilson K4 upright bass pickup (https://wilson-pickups.com/product/k4/)? This has 4 separate piezo pickups mounted in the bridge, very close to where the strings cross over. The pickup came on my Pawlik EUB, and I like its sound a lot, but the A and D strings seem to have slightly more output than the E and G, and I want to adjust that. But the instructions on their site—"By simply rotating a pickup slightly you can adjust the volume level of each string individually making the perfect balance between the output from your strings, a feature not covered by any other competitor."—don't seem to work. I've found no more detailed instruction on this on their site or elsewhere. If anyone here has used that pickup and has any tips on it, I'd love to know. Thanks!
  2. I recently got a silent (EUB) bass made by Luthier Marian Pawlik in Krakow, Poland. It's a beautiful instrument, plays and feels more like an acoustic upright than any of this type I've tried. It has a standard adjustable maple bridge, so I could use any bridge-mounted pickup, but I'm pretty happy with the Wilson K4 bridge pickup that came with it. I'm just trying to get the maximum possible acoustic tone. The bass has a small hollow body (13"X8"X3"), so there's slight acoustic sound, enough to practice in a quiet room, but no more than that. I'm curious to try a contact mic on the body, to see if that, along with the bridge pickup, could fill out the acoustic quality of the amplified sound. Any opinions on this, recommendations for external contact mics, or other ideas? Thanks! DC
