Total Watts

  1. Shall give this a go. Though I don't think I'm putting much strain on it at all. I have noticed that pretty much any gain at all makes it a bit flabby.
  2. Title says it all really. I think all the features of the amp make it a good practice amp. You can try out loads of effects and it has a lot of versatility in different use cases. But I just don't really like the way it sounds a lot of the time. I find it super hard to dial in a nice tone that doesn't sound farty or overly buzzy. I've saved patches but never been truly convinced by any of them as a plug and play tone. Am I doing something wrong? Are there any killer patches out there that I'm missing? Or do I just need to admit that it's not quite for me and move on. As ever, advice and expertise is very much appreciated.
  3. Feedback for sales and purchases here
  4. Oh also, meant to ask - I've never heard of loaning pedals as an option. Where's that done?
  5. Oooh interesting on the Spectracomp. Simple is certainly appealing. Maybe I phrased the question incorrectly, I guess I was more looking for inspiration and examples of what works for others. Appreciate that taste and YMMV elements will of course colour recommendations - but as someone with less experience in using practice rooms and shaping tone in this scenario I thought I'd see what solutions others had found
  6. Hi Folks, I've just started jamming with some friends and it's really good to be playing with others (especially a drummer) rather than just sticking on backing tracks. The first session went better than I expected. Vibes were good and we were pretty locked-in for the first time playing together. It was also really good to play at full volume, using a cab and (what I feel was) the Ashdown Rootmaster Head which I thought sounded great. I did feel that within the song I wasn't able to change tone at all without any effects and had to pretty much stick to one sound per song (disregarding dynamics and pick etc.). So I was just wondering what people think are essential effects (and maybe specific examples) for this scenario. How can you affordably and easily bring a consistent and desired tone to each practice room and have the ability to change your sound a bit whilst mid-way through a song. I'm currently thinking of trying to find a pre-amp that has both drive and compression. Maybe something like the EHX Battalion. Just wanted to get some opinions and draw on the expertise of those better versed than myself in these things.
  7. Good advice all - thanks for the input. Really helps as a newbie. I will most likely look into adding some tuners in the near future.
  8. That's great advice! I'm very new still so didn't know if it would just get buried and never looked at ever again. So hard for me to know if I was doing something wrong or not :') Very happy to be patient and maybe think about adding some tuners. Thanks for sharing your experience
  9. Have been unable to shift the Vintera P Bass Neck I had listed on here so I was wondering if anyone had any advice for selling a neck? Either on the forum or elsewhere? Want this to go to a home and to also recoup a bit of the cost of replacing the neck. I don't use social media so haven't looked on FB. Is gumtree a viable option? Any help or insight anyone has is really appreciated. Apologies if this isn't the right place to post.
  10. I got my standing ticket too. Decent chance Fearless Flyers will be opening which would be very cool.
  11. We had a small conversation at the beginning of my lessons a few months ago - but haven't revisited since. No long-term plan or similar has been established. It's all very ad-hoc and I think I'd appreciate a bit more structure. I also sometimes ask for specific tips or insights and don't get the most actionable responses. Largely just "give it time" or words to that effect🤷‍♂️
  12. Thanks for the welcome, all. J: What a lovely reply - thanks for taking the time! You're right about lessons being a way of holding you responsible. At a bare minimum it means I practice when I'm feeling less motivated - though I'm in a hot streak currently (maybe it's a virtuous cycle??) I guess I could be a bit more pro-active with setting goals with the teacher. Maybe he expects me to lead the lesson's direction more than I currently do. Playing with others is a long term goal for me and I know it will improve my playing a lot and very quickly. I'm currently working out scheduling for a jam with a few friends of friends - let's see how that goes. Their stuff feels quite melancholy and incredibly earnest which isn't normally my thing but I'm approaching it with an open mind and good intentions. Thanks, Joe
  13. Hi All, Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I'm Joe and well... "hi" I'm mostly self-taught (thanks to sweeeeet sweeeeet BassBuzz) though latterly have been having short lessons every other week as I look for a bit of guidance how to pull myself out of the confusing quagmire of the "intermediate". There's a lot to focus, and improve, on and having a teacher should help with that I think. I do sometimes get the feeling that my teacher is sort of playing for time in lessons though. I wonder what everyone's opinions about what makes a good teacher and a good lesson (as well as student, I guess). I must admit I found this forum because of the classifieds initially. I'm looking to sell the 50s Style Vintera neck from my P bass (take a look at the listing if interested) that I just replaced with a more standard Jazz neck. This was definitely not the most economic choice, but I wanted to keep the P bass as I'm attached to it sentimentally and bloody love the thing. I appreciate it's quite odd to replace the main element on the bass that made it unique, but it just felt too awkward to play and comfort is king. Anyway, that's enough rambling. I'm glad I've found a nice corner of the internet with like-minded individuals. Jamerson. Dart. Palladino.
  14. **SOLD** Hi Folks, Really beautiful roasted maple neck built to 50s specs for Fender's 'Vintera' line - perfect for those who like a thicker neck. This Neck is in perfect condition and all the fretwork is immaculate. Unfortunately for me I find the Jazz style neck much more comfortable so I've swapped this one out. Neck Finish: Gloss Urethane Neck Material: Maple Neck Shape: Vintage "C" Number of Frets: 20 Nut Material: Synthetic Bone Nut Width: 1.75" (44.45 mm) Orientation: Right-Hand Full specs on Fender serial lookup using SN: MX21191736 Fender sell the same neck as a replacement neck new for £489.99 here: https://uk.fender.com/products/roasted-maple-vintera-50s-precision-bass-neck-20-vintage-frets-725-c-shape Worth mentioning here that the truss rod adjustment is placed at the bottom of the neck, staying true to the 50s design. If you have any questions or would like to see more pictures please let me know. Would prefer local pickup/dropoff in South London, but can discuss posting in the box that the replacement came in if you're really interested. Thanks
