Yeah, almost every bass I have owned with a bridge J pickup has been underpowered. (with stock pickups) Oh really. Thats a big move. Well do let me know if you decide to make that decision. 😏

Here are a few I’ve owned over the years - still holding on to my JMJ. I also own a Fender Mustang PJ II in white and have an Atelier Z Baby Z on order. Over the years I’ve probably had 10–12 Mustang-shaped basses in total. Highlights (and lowlights!) include: - A Firemist Gold Fender PJ - A second 1978 Musicmaster in white (honestly pretty rough, definitely not my favourite) - The natural-finish ’78 Musicmaster pictured below - one I really regret selling - A couple of heavily modded Squier Broncos - One pictured below So at the moment I’m down to three in the collection, but Mustangs just keep finding their way back to me.

Hey everyone! I don’t think this topic exists yet, so I thought I’d start one to showcase Mustangs and similar models – things like the Fender Musicmaster, Vincent Pony, Atelier Z Baby Z, and other Mustang-inspired basses. This is really just a “show us what you’ve got” thread – what you love, what you’re not so keen on, what’s on your wishlist, and any rare finds you’ve come across. Personally, I really got into Mustangs after the release of the Fender JMJ, and since then I’ve owned a few different Mustangs and their sister models. So let’s see what you’re rocking!

Reverend Thundergun Bass – Venetian Gold (Rare, 1 of 4)
DanDoesBass replied to DanDoesBass's topic in Basses For Sale

Up for sale is my Reverend Thundergun bass in Venetian Gold – I believe only four of these were ever produced in this finish, making it one of the rarest Reverend basses around. A real collector’s piece, but also a phenomenal player. The Thundergun is known for its thick, old-school tone with plenty of punch and sustain. The raised korina body centre and thinner wings give it huge resonance, while the 5-piece set neck adds extra stability and harmonic richness. Specifications: Body: Solid korina Neck: 5-piece korina/walnut, medium oval profile Scale length: 34" Fingerboard: Rosewood, 12" radius, 21 medium jumbo frets Pickups: Thick Brick (bridge), Split Brick (neck) Hardware: Hipshot Ultralight tuners, heavy duty bridge (string-thru or top load, ¾” spacing) Controls: Volume, tone, pickup pan Nut: 42mm This is a pro-quality instrument that looks stunning and plays even better. The Venetian Gold finish really pops under stage lights, and with only four made, you won’t see another like it. Selling due to hand injury, otherwise would most definitely be keeping! Collection preferred but happy to ship normally around £15-£20. Feel free to ask any questions

Hey everyone! I’m Dan, a full-time musician and studio owner based in Milton Keynes. I’ve been playing bass for around 20 years, and I’m fortunate to be an artist with both Alpher and Blackstar. Alongside running my studio and events company, I play in a few different bands and get involved in lots of music-related projects, but bass has always been at the centre of everything I do. In recent years I’ve become a big advocate for short scales. My JMJ Mustang has stuck with me longer than most of the basses I’ve owned, which says a lot! I love the style and vibe of short scales, and they’ve also been a huge help since I developed a tendon issue in my right hand a couple of years ago. The lower tension makes them far more comfortable and keeps me playing longer. I’ve followed Bass Chat for a while but never joined until now. Excited to finally be part of the community and talk all things bass - especially the short-scale side of it!

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
DanDoesBass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Hey everyone! I’ve followed Bass Chat for a number of years but only just joined the community properly. My name’s Dan, and I’ve been playing bass for around 20 years. I’m lucky enough to work in the music industry through my own music studio and events company, and I also play in a few different bands. Earlier this year, I was fortunate to join the artist rosters for both Blackstar and Alpher Instruments, which has been a real highlight for me. Over the years I’ve owned more basses than I can count, but lately I’ve found myself gravitating more and more toward short scales. My JMJ Mustang has actually stuck with me longer than most others, which says a lot! I’m a huge advocate for short scales—not just for their mojo and unique vibe, but also for how playable they are. One thing worth mentioning is that I developed a tendon issue in my right hand about 3–4 years ago (likely from overplaying). Because of that, longer-scale instruments aren’t always an option for me, but the lower tension of short scales means I can still play comfortably for much longer. So, I’m partly here to say hi, and partly to share my appreciation for short scales. Really looking forward to being part of the conversation!
