  1. I’ve just picked up my first 5-String bass, a Schecter C5, which I’m loving. As I play Rotosound 66s on my Jazz (standard gauge), I put the equivalent 5-string set on the C5, but the feeling when I pluck is different. It’s difficult to describe, but when my fingers come to rest on the string below after plucking a note i get this kind of dead thud feeling in my finger, and i seem to hear a similar overtone. Needless to say I don’t get any of this on the 4-string. My question is, is this caused by my technique, in which case what changes need to be made to accommodate a 5-string, is it just because it’s a longer scale, or is this the strings, in which case what strings would you recommend I try out, and in what gauge, for 60s/70s/80s rock? Thanks
  2. For sale is a set of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 extra long strings for a 5 string bass. They are too long for my bass. Bought in error as I thought I needed the extra length as the bass is a through-body design. Tghe packet has been opened hence why I cannot return them Standard gauge - 45 60 80 105 103. £25 £20 including postage anywhere in UK
  3. So i'm looking to get a 5-string as there are some songs I am needing to play that go below E. I'd rather play the correct note than an octave above on my 4-string. The problem is with the demise of PMT there are no instrument shops in my city, with the exception of 1 that usually only has 2nd hand gear in and can be very hit and miss in terms of what basses they have at any one time. I have found a nice looking Cort C5 Deluxe on Reverb that is within my price range so was wondering what people's opinions on buying a bass sight unseen from the 'net? It seems to be from a music shop in another city so I'm a little bit more reassured than if it was a private seller. Alos, how does a Cort compare to a 4-string Squier Jazz or Precision in terms of neck feel (I have one of each)? Thanks
  4. So I play a lot of songs with alternative tunings (Eb and D mainly) as well as in standard E. This is not an issue when practicing at home as. Can take my time to retune, but in rehearsals and gigs, it wastes a lot of time. Rather than having several other guitars (that I can’t afford) in different tunings and swapping, I thought of getting a 5 string, keeping it in BEADG standard, and then using a capo when I need to change tuning. Songs that require drop d I can still use my 4 string with hipshot. What are people’s thoughts on using a capo with a 5-string bass? Is it acceptable or will I be shunned by the bass community and have cries of “Shame!” following me around the rest of my days?
  5. Whereabouts in your signal chain do you put it?
  6. One last question. Have you used them for a live gig?
  7. I'm looking at this as a choice for a wireless system so wondering how you are getting on with it. How is the latency, and are you getting any interference or dropouts?
  8. Has anyone bought any bass pedals from Sine Effect? They appear to be a small operation in Glasgow. I’m looking for a low- & high-pass filter pedal, and they popped up in my search. Looking at this https://sineeffect.com/C24-High-Low-Pass-filter-pedal-p595346070
