1. Bought several cables from Dave - never occured for me to leave feedback before, so take this one as a way of catching up.

Great cables - really don't know why anyone would go anywhere else!

You can buy a box on there of 50 for £37. Almost every band I have worked with [and thats a lot] use these.
Great tip ... thanks

  3.
Without a doubt Fusion Gigbags IMO the best on the market. They do a whole range from £20 - £150 with everything in between depending on budget!
Nice one ... they look really interesting.

  4.
My old 'Catch-O-Matic' stand has been absolutely great. I haven't seen any original versions around, but would buy another if I came across one. Here's a picture of the latest version...

I really wanted one of these and thought I had got on on ebay but the Royal Mail intervened and trashed the stand. Got my money back immediately from the seller with no hassle but fed up that I nearly had the stand!

  5. It's my pleasure to start up a feedback thread for Jon, who now owns my much loved Ric.

Great guy to deal with, good communications, no hassle payment.

I would have no hesitation dealing with him again.

  6. After much thought I am posting my beloved Rickenbacker 4003 for sale.

My band is in limbo at the moment and I don't have any gigs, my Wife wants a new kitchen, I cannot justify two bass guitars so I have decided to hang on to my G&L.

It is a 2005 model in Mapleglo with original Ric case. I love Mapleglo - the grain of the wood makes each bass unique - I hope you can see that. It is strung with Elite nickels.

I am looking for £1150. Alternatively I would only consider part trade/part cash for a 1x15 or 2x10 lightweight combo - probably only Markbass or Gallien-Krueger.

The bass has an interesting feature with a block installed behind the treble pickup - this was done by a previous owner. It addresses the known issue of playing finger style whilst retaining the bass pickup cover which is so much part of the Rickenbacker's unique style. The block does not interfere at all playing with a pick.

I have tried to capture a blemish on the inlay around the body (last photo), bottom right under the treble volume control. There is also a slight ding on the bottom rear of the headstock which I can feel but it is so small I cannot photograph it even with a macro setting. There is very minor marking on the back of the body which can only be seen when held at a particular angle to the light and is not apparent on the photograph of the back.

I have tried to do the bass justice with the attached photographs but they fall a bit short of the real thing, however anyone is welcome to inspect hands on.

For the logistics of collection/delivery, I am based between Nottingham and Derby, 2 miles form M1 J25. I do travel regularly on business - particularly down to Croydon, occasionally the North West and South West (as far as Exeter).

I do not want to trust this to any couriers and would be happy to travel a reasonable distance for a half way meet up if at least a deposit was paid prior to travelling. If you are interested PM me with your location and I will see what I can do.

  7.
I'd be tempted to say you'd get a better sound from a second hand markbass/ampeg or older GK combo etc.
I guess I agree with you, but cost and availability (in the right location) is an issue at the moment. I'm not in a great hurry though so I will keep on looking.

(Not sure about the Ampeg BA combos)

Thoughts on initial feedback are that I won't go in the MB combo direction, unless I have no other option.

  8.
If you're in the area you're more than welcome to come along and try it out.
Thanks for the offer - I am down in Croydon on business occasionally .... I may take you up on this.

  9.
If you could stretch to around £600 the Markbass 102 Sh is far far better..and in a different league, IMO.
Yes I know ... but £600 is in a different league for me at the moment.

  10. Having parted with my previous set up to downsize and free up a bit of money, I have been looking around for a suitable second hand combo without anything coming up to date.

Whilst I have a month or so before I need something, I am looking at contingency plan B and having to buy new when the time comes (much as it pains me to do so but I guess someone has to!). The Gallien-Krueger MB combo - 115 & 210 would seem to meet my requirements in terms of power, size, weight, price point etc.. The size and weight are important as I have an impractical saloon car at the moment (and a dodgy back).

I was looking for some feedback on how they perform in small venues. Any thoughts out there? Guidance as usual would be appreciated.

    Peter

  11. I can only just echo everyone else. A Ric was always my dream bass ... ever since I first saw Chris Squire play. So this year I had enough £ 'spare' to buy one - even persuaded my Wife it was the right thing to do and took her along when I bought it!

The result, several months and a few gigs on is I am still undecided. It has a great tone and playability but I am not 100% comfortable playing it. I do finger style and a previous owner had fitted a white mount next to the neck under the strings (very subtle I assure you) where my thumb goes ... otherwise it would not have worked for me.

So I am thinking about parting with it. Been there done it and it had to happen one day. Will loose a little on a sale but if I do it will be in the knowledge I have owned one and made a dream a reality.

Now is a great time to buy a pre-loved Ric ... if you want one, they are great value as the market has dropped quite a bit.
