1. I'm not a technical person, so forgive my vague reply.

I've got an Audere Z-mode 3-band preamp on one of my basses -- and it has a mini toggle that emphasises different frequencies depending on where it's set. Does yours have that -- and does changing it help?

I think you can also adjust tone settings on the circuit board inside. Here's the website:

    Hope that helps.

  2. This was the reply from my friend who's out there this week. It sounds complicated -- but this is what he said, if it helps.

My understanding is that, if you're going to be working out there, you need a sponsoring employer. The process is then that you fill out an application form for a "Certificate of Eligibility" which then has to be sent via the employer to the visa authorities in Japan. This may take a few weeks to come back, at which point you have to complete an additional form for a visa, which you then have to take to the Japanese Consulate in London in person. Once all this has been done they turn 'round the visa in about a week.

His is a reasonably high profile metal band so maybe they have to do things by the book. Sounds like a proper application for a job, though.

  3. I had a bass built by Bud LeCompte in Texas -- based purely on how it looked and his reputation on Talkbass.

This was four years ago, when there were two dollars to the Pound and I had money to spend. I budgeted for the tax, VAT and a flight case.

Bud did a great job, kept me updated with photos and delivered more or less on time. I still love the bass -- it's light, well balanced, plays nicely and looks lovely.

I'd say getting a custom abroad is fine if you have the cash and are willing to take a risk on how it will turn out.

    Here's the build diary

    Not my bike, sadly :)

  4. Our very own obbm does them.

They're great and Dave's service is awesome. I think the G30 transmitter has a straight jack plug input instead of the TA4-f used on others in the range.

Sorry for the OT post, elsharko. But have a bump -- if G30s are anything like G90s, it's a great bit of kit.

  5.
Do they open their set with "Here comes the Sun" followed with "House of the Rising Sun" etc etc ?
Er, no ... the nearest we get is You Took The Sunshine From New York by the Wildhearts.

    Oh, and Don't Believe A Word :)

  6. I was going to mention this but I thought it might break advertising rules.

It costs £1.50 to enter, though.

Many of the senior Sun staff are metal fans -- at least four play guitar to a high standard. One runs a three-piece blues band in Hastings, another fronts a punk metal band in Kent.

There is even a Sun covers band -- Ten Bananas.

  7.
That's interesting. Where did you order that from?
Andertons in Guildford. They suggested it when I asked about extra-long Levys straps that they sell in America.

They ordered the extension in but it arrived quickly.

  8. If it's a two-part thing, like a Levys with a loop-through system, you can order longer back bits to extend them.

I recently ordered the back portion of a Levys suede strap to make mine longer for a T-bird.
