That is a lovely bass, I bought a new identical bass in 1984 and gigged it for about 6 years - I eventually sold it for £100 !! I wish I had kept it, it played well and looked really cool.....enjoy, I am so jealous.

As Hamfist said the Prestige basses are awesome, I've been gigging a SR4500 weekly for about 8 months and I amd still amazed by the sound and playablility when I pick it up. I can't imagine that a pickup replacement would make a lot of difference to it.

I have a U-retro pre-amp in my Jazz bass special, not the same but very similar. I gig it using a stageClix pack wireless system and have no problems at all. As the previous poster said they do have quite a high output but that hasn't ever troubled my wireless kit.......maybe it's time to change, newer digital wireless systems are miles better for bass use.

I had an Ibanez BTB400 which had a Neutrik jack socket, they are very high quality and also have a built in lock to keep the cable secure, my bass was 10 years old and the socket (which was original) never gave me an ounce of trouble. It might be worth trying to retrofit one, they are quite tidy looking sockets....here's a picture of what I had.

Our PA isn't big enough to cope with me as well so I have bought a GK MB200 as a backup amp - it's small, amazingly loud and capable as an amp - I could probably cover the majority of our gigs with it.

I bought an SR4500 at the start of the year from the classifieds here, it's an amazing bass - I've gigged it at least twice a week since I got it and it still impresses when I pick it up. The range of sounds and sustain is huge, the action is low, the neck is thin and it even stays in tune between gigs. If you can find one of the Prestige SR basses grab it, they sell for good money and are really quite special.

My MB800 fans usually start after about 10 minutes powered up and keep going pretty much all the time, they do speed up when the amp is working harder, but will run even when I'm not playing - they are noticeable at rehearsals but not in gigs. These amps are really efficient, mine never feels warm to the touch and the fan exhaust feels cool, even after a couple of hours at large club volume.

I run a GK MB800 and it sounds great at low level as well as feeding headphones, but the small amps do have one problem for quiet use - which is the cooling fans, when mine kick in they are quite noisy and they do tend to stay on pretty much permanently......not a problem at gigs but audible at home.

Was the bass advertised on Ebay or here, the description sounds just like a bass I've looked at in the last couple of days?

I agree with the comments above, I am a convert and use them on all my basses.

I've never played a Fusion 800 so I would be interested to hear the replies you get, I like the extra push button tone variations it offers over the regular MB800. I do use an MB800 twice a week for club and pub gigs and it does the job really well, I can get a wide range of sounds from it and it is extremely loud. It always feels cool to the touch, no matter how hard I drive it. All in all a great bit of kit and highly recommended.

I used a late 90's 1215 300w combo for a couple of years and it was a pretty good sounding amp (very loud), although it was a bit flaky in the power amp stage when I first got it. I changed it for one of the newer 1215 500w amps thinking the extra headroom would be useful, but apart from the extra weight it wasn't as good. I used it most of the time with a 1518c cab which was light as a feather and sounded good and it did the job but is wasn't anything special. The GK kit I use now is much lighter and sounds better and potentially goes a lot louder if required.

It's a shame, when I played in pubs and clubs 20 - 25 years ago I used a 150w Carlsbro head and 2x15 cab that felt like a wardrobe when I moved it round (in my Mini), at that time Trace was the new kid on the block and for me was lighter and better sounding - but so expensive then. Now, it still sounds much the same and weighs the same - I guess as others have said we have all moved on apart from them. The current cabs are good and I would still use them, but the electronics aren't as special as they used to be.

I had a 4 string Cirrus BXP which I gigged for a couple of years, it was a great bass but it had a really high output level which would sometimes over drive the amp if you got carried away when you were playing and it also got through batteries really quickly, is the 9 volt version you have the same ?

I was on the Peavey website looking at the Rudy Sarzo signature bass and watched their promo video recorded in a room full of Peavey bass amps and cabinets, at around 3 minutes in he turns around to his amp he is playing through and it's a Trace Elliot TA100, there's then a full on shot at 3 minutes 10 seconds......maybe product placement or the best amp they could find for him to play through !

I had a fretless RBX270 for a while and the only mod I did was shielding the control cavity in copper foil, that made quite a difference in electrically noisy rooms or stages.

I only use two wire speakons since the MB800 doesn't allow for bi-amping. It wouldn't matter if you had a four wire cable from the amp, if the switch on the back is set to full range.

I use a GK MB800 and it has speakons that don't accept jack plugs, my Trace Elliot combo before that did.

I run the same cabs you do playing through an MB800, great sound as you say. Both my cabs have jack sockets as well as speakons, you could feed the 212 from the speakon then use a jack to jack lead from the 212 to the 115, just make sure the switch is set to full range on both.

I bought a Gallien Krueger MB800 amp from Harry in mint condition. It all went smoothly, he shipped it quickly and he replied promptly to all my messages.

Highly recommended and a perfect seller.
