Looks great too. Very pleasing arrangement of thumb rest and preamp deletion. Well done, that man.

I’m guessing they only put those cheap preamps in to to help disguise how naturally awful these basses sound 😂 (joke)

  2. I have a similar problem with my neighbour. I sometimes think am I playing too loud, but then think ‘f*?k that guy’ because his tv/home cinema system is on at ridiculous volumes at all hours. I’ve only just got up and can hear it already. No complaints though as yet from him or me.

  3. I only swapped it because the Charvel sounds really dark, too much so for me. It seems to be a mixture of the DiMarzios and the roasted maple neck. The Charvel body and Fender neck (along with the DiMarzios) now sounds fantastic. The Precision with the Charvel sounds OKish. Definitely darker with less clarity.

I’m now thinking I might get some DiMarzios  for the P bass and another Fender neck!

And weren't the original Charvels made from Mighty Mite (or similar) Fender compatible necks and bodies?

I believe they did start off as some parts place, yeah.

Interestingly, the Fender neck has gone on no problem. The Charvel neck on the P body as proving a massive b**ch to set up.

    Love her... 💟

Swap the upright for a P. Bass and that’d be perfect (joking).

I just listened to ‘Talk to Me’ - on Jools Holland. Is it Coltrane’s My Favorite Things the piano reminds me of?? I’m too tired and drunk to be confident about that lol

Nice one 👍,  it’s fairly straightforward and it’s got a great feel to it

Sorry, I’m a bit worse for wear 😂. That should have said ‘that’s the first reggae bass line I ever learned’. But yeah, it’s a great bassline. Family Man is a beast.

  7. Arrogance maybe? More about going for the money than the material? Less ability than they’ve led everybody to believe? Bad day? People are weird, who knows - that being said, it’s really disheartening to be in that position when you’ve put someone you know forward and they let you down. What did they say/how did they seem when you approached them? If I didn’t wanna do something , or I genuinely thought it was above me, I’d say no.

It sounds a bit of a p**s take. Is he/she normally reliable and competent?

Not the official bass line, but the one I'm playing on our take of Sheryl Crow's version of Sweet Child of Mine makes me smile. I much prefer her version to the original.  I'm combining the bass part with elements of the guitar melody and links I've made up myself into a busy bass part that works with our arrangement. I even get to play the bass melody from the start of the GnR version.

That’s a good point that. There’s nowt wrong with making something your own - it’s the basis of musical evolution.

Wilton Felder’s bass line on Don’t Interrupt the Sorrow by Joni Mitchell is lovely to play.

Cool, groovy, slinky and perfect. There’s also a little motif/phrase up towards the dusty end that is great fun.

I’ve never heard that song. I’ve just put it on 👍

  10. They don’t have to be the ‘best’ or most technical, just lines/songs you like playing.

A few random ones for me I’ve been playing recently are Paranoid (Black Sabbath), Nowhere to Run (Martha Reeves), Where Eagles Dare (Iron Maiden), Higher Ground (Chilis), Bombtrack (RATM), I’ll Take You There (Staple Singers), I wish (Stevie Wonder).

I've found this Apple Music is really bad & at the best "flakey" . Looking at the Hard Drive type devices mentioned here need to research & think what will be best.

Amazon Music is not much better. The main reason I signed up to it, was to download albums and have them offline for travelling/work etc. The first thing it tries to do is connect to the internet and then not detect your downloaded content. A few updates later it’s better, but not by much. I think I’ll stick to CDs and MP3s.

I have two PBass player series and as working basses used in the band they are superb instruments for me.

Sensible price and easy to add simple mods like hi mass bridge etc etc

Working bass for £700 new is a no brainer for me and they look and play good

That was my initial plan until I saw the sienna sunburst MiJ! Now I’m trying to talk myself out of spending the extra money I don’t really have 😁. I already have a Player series and it’s a very nice bass so either way I’ll be happy. I was curious what the Vintera brought to the table but that’s off the cards.

I tried and tried to love my AVRI, it was beautiful and sounded immense, but the nut width defeated me in the end. The Vintera is the same, 44mm. My 70's P's are 41mm, it doesn't sound like much of a difference, but it feels like a lot under my fingers.

I think both the Player and the MIJ models are around the 40/41 mark. 44 would be way too wide for my Hobbit hands. Another reason to go for the MiJ.

To get back on topic, I changed a bridge once because I had to know. At best? 5% difference and that was negative. With a Baddass bridge. For the record, changing my EMG preamp from 9v to 18v was also a collosal "Is that it? Really?" event.

I’m not sure I could tell much difference sound wise with a Badass II, but at least the saddles didn’t jump about and undo every time I changed strings, it was in every way more stable. The other thing it did though was add unnecessary weight, not a huge problem. I payed next to nothing for it used though, so it went on. Not sure I’d pay full price.

I’ve got a Charvel with a Badass style bridge and I’m tempted to try a vintage style one. It’s a really dark sounding bass and I’m sure the bridge might play a part in that.

  15. Does anyone know what the actual differences are? Is the Vintera a replacement model for the player and if so what are the apparent upgrades or differences they’ve introduced? I’m guessing the Japanese Fender workmanship and quality is going to be top notch, I own a Player and the quality control on that is pretty damn good. I’m considering a new P bass and it will be one of these three (there’s absolutely no way I’m paying for a US model).
