  1. Hi all, IV managed to find and purchase a new Gibson DC tribute bass, the last one in Oz.. it's on its way 2000klms to me. While Im waiting, IV ordered a few "bits" , and wish to change vol/ tone knobs. What size is Gibson pot shafts? Back in day were 1/4", but online I keep getting different responses.. Can anyone definitely tell me , in inches and or metric ?? Cheers
  2. Thanks, that has been my experience with old AB ...I guessed at 25% drop in output..500 down to 375.. I was close....cheers
  3. Thanks, I wasn't sure, been using valve gear for gtr since 70s..( for 6str gtr), and now back playing bass, so learning about class D..., Just got a Darkglass micrtubes 500, want to run 3 X 8ohm boxs .
  4. Hi all, I have a question regarding output power and ohmage. With a 500 watt class D amp , with a 2 ohm minimum, what would amp output into 2.67 ohms, still 500 watts, or would there b a slight reduction? Am I confusing Class D performance with Class A/B, or am I just confused? Any thoughts b much appreciated.
  5. Stand alone, the Ashdown is more of the tone I aiming for. Having owned a V4B ( old non master vol), with a Rat pedal, I was thinking PFs with a pedal to push. Thanks for your input.
  6. I might add that I'm going for a very driven tube growl . 60/70s rock. Current using Darkglass Microtubes 500 V2 . I get a good tone, overkill headroom , but still not a valve ..
  7. Hi all , has anyone had chance for volume comparison between Ashdown CTM 30 Little Stubby, Ampeg PF50t, Ampeg pf20t?? I'm playing in a trio (fairly low volume), I have a good sense of tones available from 3 heads , but am interested in perceived volume. Coming from yrs of playing 6str thru Marshall hd + quads, F twins, V AC30s ,ECT .I'm very aware that numbers of speakers, and their efficiency, impacts hugely the volume attained.. especially with all valve amps driving. So , with head set for similar tone and gain, thru identical speaker, what might the difference be ?( If any noticeable)? Thanks all
  8. Hi all, I'm asking for comparisons between Ampeg svt210 av and Ampeg portaflex 210 Tone, volume differences? I'm looking at purchasing 2 cabs, I have tried svt210 and was impressed.. but wondering about portaflex ? I currently have a Ampeg Micro VR hd, so wattage is limited to stated 200 watts (although, apparently 260ish on a test bench) Cheers!
  9. PS.. before everyone starts about " lack of bottom end",, I'm try for a tone reminiscent of Jack Bruce...(Cream) with limitations of an Ampeg Micro VR, and a hofner Beatle Bass... Pedals are a tech 21 VT, Darkglass SS comp , BBE stomp mini( set v low). Analogue delay (slap), Both hpf fx loop, Im looking to add a good gate there soon .
  10. Maybe I can explain myself abit better. I have a Boughton active -12 db to b set 45 Hz, then I have a gob -3db passive set to 70 hz, Therefore "cut off" begins at (approx)70 hz at 3 db per Oct, while at 45 hz increased slope of 12 db per Oct.. soft then harder knee.. I hope this explains.
  11. Thanks Mate. PS. U don't know of a gate pedal with more control parameters than threshold..ratio ? ie attack and release
  12. A friend of mine had a Vox 130? watt valve hd circa late 70s?.? Not sure exactly, but it sounded huge with 2 JBL d130 15s... And weighed lots more than F b/man 100 or Marshall bass 100. I'm pretty sure it was classA/B too , not classA (AC 15/30) is ac50 class A or a/b ?? Again, love your rig , deserves to b gigged!!
  13. Welcome...errrr.. drooling over the Vox hd and box.. worth a small fortune in Australia..
  14. Thanks for your insights , it's refreshing to read a "constructive" post, as opposed to an "negative emotive" one . It's a v good point regarding digital production.. All best regards
  15. Thanks for all input, I have a Boughton -12db on it's way. I'm still looking for a cheaper passive version. .
  16. Ok, thanks for everyone's insight., On my behalf, I could have been more detailed in my explanation of the whole thing .One point I found interesting,, I asked similar question on here and a site in US, I got quite different responses. Again, thanks for everyone's variety of input..
  17. U probably right, just the studio side of me keeps ruling my thought process.. it's not for tone really, it's to get rid of woolie bottom from hofner being O/driven, And to get max vol out of Ampeg Micro VR with 1x12..
  18. Thanks, I should have mentioned I have a 12db Broughton coming (for FX loop of amp)want passive for 1st on pedal board...
  19. Thanks,IV seen this one, I think it's "synth" oriented level -10db, not instrument lev.. But thanks for your input
  20. Hi all, I'm asking if any one knows of any "high pass filter " (variable, passive) IV been trying to find HP(brand name) passive hpf, but can't find anywhere. Any clues? Or any other brands people know of? Thanks
  21. Thanks for all speaker wisdom !! I'v learned so much in last 2 months!! I really appreciate it all.
  22. Ok, thanks again S M. I was wondering difference between the HiDrive HD..HL.. all I could find online ,was usual "propaganda" , no actual specs, other than weight/ dimensions.. Back in D Good Old Days, ANY info sheet on gear ,pro or amateur ,had a "spec sheet".. Any way thanks again, I have been using Hartke with horn off.. for what I like sooo much better, Can't get over bottom end that little cab can get, though I have bass 10 o'clock on amp ,and 30 htz pulled 12 db down 60 htz 6 db down on graffic, for sound I'm chasing. All best regards Mate
  23. Thanks for that, unfortunately the 112 is quite rare in Oz, actually unpopular here, I don't know why, it's a big sounding little thing, and the 4/8ohm select great idear!! So, next best thing would b HiDrive 2x10, same brand, series. At least they readily available..
