But what was it? I can’t work it out and would love to know. However I don’t claim a vast knowledge of bass guitars.

I did think an old Westone but couldn’t find any that had the knobs like this. Also the headstock and truss rod cover are different

    somebody must recognise it surely?

I thought Westone thunder as weĺl at first. I do think it's some kind of uncle mats. Don't like the neck/headstock repair much.

    Could becone a headless project.

Fancy letting a through neck of that quality get in that state. Bstewards

  2. It is difficult to tell from the photos but my OCD tells me the bottom of that heel may have curled away from the body where the dovetail ends.

When you look from sideways on at a right angle to the join does what you see confirm this? Is that a straight line at that point.

Maybe you can photo that for us to see.

I've got a Stingray neck to do and I have boiled linseed, a big 5ltr can of it, and was considering it as a finish. I'd also like a vintage-y colour, I'm wondering if the oil alone would do this if built up in layers.

The Ralf1e thing with turmeric is interesting but I did try the powder form in some water on something else and it went a horrible canary yellow so won't be doing that!

Guess it's the oil or buy some tinted nitro... Can you nitro over linseed if its properly dried btw ?

I did do a test with powder a you did but found two issues as you say it came up canary yellow and the powder also drops into the grain. The juice from the rubbed on fresh root did neither of these and can look bright but oiling afterwards does tone it down.

  4. Just bought Toms last Smoothhound yesterday.

He got it out the door and in the post straight away.

A very nice purchase from a very nice man.

I am delighted as you will be buying from him

I disagree with that quite a lot.

We all have the right to "quiet enjoyment" of our homes. That means we shouldn't be forced to consider ear plugs etc due to the actions of others. That isn't quiet enjoyment - that's having to take steps to deal with the selfishness of others.

    Totally agree on that

I think it's wise to collect a few dates before confronting someone. If nothing  else I can see whether I am overreacting.

So far it's actually been 4 occasions; 2 afternoons of ridiculously loud music with his speakers next to his upstairs open window, and 2 long expletive laden telephone conversations while leaning out of the same window.

I gather he didn't seek your permission before he moved in 🤣

    That's a nonsense petition.

Nuisance covers anything that is antisocial. There's no discrimination.

Sounds like communications have broken down there and the person is clutching at straws. Would be interesting to see all the evidence that the neighbour has collated and the evidence the council have that the musician hasn't compromised.

I am currently compiling a noise diary over a new neighbour. So far there's only been 3 occasions but suspect it's going to continue if I don't go over and have a chat.

Said neighbour is 3 houses away and I can hear his music inside my house.

    That about sums you up

    Thanks for the reassurance everyone.

Yes Tony, these are TI’s (what am I like?). I hadn’t expected another P bass along so soon, hence selling the last set to you! I may hang on to strings a bit longer in future……
I thought I’d fit this with something different to my other one which has La Bella LTFs as you know. Now I have options.
I’ve carefully trimmed back the silks with a craft knife and put a tiny bit of PVA on them to stop them unravelling. I think it’s ok now. After a slight tweak of the truss rod, a little saddle, pickup, and intonation adjustment, I think it’s ready to play in for a while.
I’ll take it to rehearsal tomorrow and give it a proper outing for a few hours.

Here’s a pic with the silks trimmed.

The intonation on this one looks about right to my eyes and too far forward on the other one

  9. Oi live in the country where we have nice gardens with lots of grass, bushes and hedges to cut etc.

Both my neighbours cut theirs as do I mine.

After we moved in we nicknamed it machine row as at the weekend there is nearly always some machine or other being used in the area to cut something. Often in the week as well

We asked the neighbors if our music disturbs them and they say no we cant hear it.

One of them likes motorbikes and quads which he test rides around his garden sometimes. 8.30 Sunday maybe.

We choose to live and let live which is great.

In the original article it is apparent that the complainer is a music teacher having a dig at a fellow female musician who she admits she can't hear if she shuts her door. Yet the ar*e from the EHO has insisted in making this order without any decibel readings or other justification.

This threatens the girls livelihood. I hope he finds himself in the same place.
