If buying basses is evil then sign me up for hell 😆
The bible is strangely quiet on the love of basses, so I think we're probably safe!

The love of money is the root of all evil. Money isn't inherently evil, but what people choose to do with it certainly can be.

The Squier Precision in my profile pic is my oldest. Not my first, as that was a Hohner Rockwood Pro I got for my 18th birthday, but I part-exed it for the Squier as it had annoying dead spots on the neck, and I fancied buying a "proper" bass with some student loan money I had burning a hole in my bank account - this was 1998 so the days when it was an optional thing you had to apply for and got paid it as a lump sum. Still have it, play it, gig it and love it.

I wouldn't necessarily say one was easier to play than the other, but I don't play that quickly whereas I understand that those that do tend to prefer the slightly narrower string spacing of the Jazz.

After reading this article, I am no closer too seeing this as a legitimate genre. You just cannot lump Johnnie Cash, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and the Lumineers in the same grouping.
As someone has mentioned above it's kind of an umbrella term for lots of different styles, rather than a rigidly defined singular genre.

Okay, but, to me, “Country” is most pre-1970’s artists of the genre, and ending with George Strait and Scotty McCreary. Bluegrass is different…Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Allison Krause…Folk is way different…Dylan, Kingston Trio, Weavers…
Most new country is really pop music. The best definition of country music I’ve heard is “three chords and the truth.”
Oh god, I'd forgotten about George Strait. The missus is something of a fan which means I've listened to him a lot more than I'd have ever wanted to. If I have to listen to him sing about his oceanfront property in Ah-Ri-Zoooor-Na one more time I'll go postal - Lee Sklar playing on that track is its only redeeming feature.

It doesn't look like the battery clip is detachable which is a bit of an oversight for those with a separate battery compartment. A 2 pin connector might be your best option:
I think they've developed it mainly for people looking to upgrade the MetroExpress, as everything will fit nicely in the standard Sadowsky control cavity. Honestly I'll probably just cut it and solder the two ends together as the pickup and ground wires will need soldering anyway so two more wires won't make a huge amount of difference.

As someone who was born and raised in rural America, lived in both the Midwest and Texas, I am at a bit of a loss to discover what the heck "Americana" really is. Best definition I have seen is "a fusion of all American forms of music", which could also be rock, country, blues, etc. Is this just another attempt to subdivide music into yet another category that doesn't really exist? Is it that some folks are just ashamed of real country music, or real bluegrass music? Who inspires Americana? Alison Krause? B.B King? Carlos Santana? George Strait?
I would love to be educated, please......
It's basically intended to be country as country used to be without all the glitz, glamour, homogeneity and mediocrity that's been associated with "mainstream" country for decades. I'm using "country" as a catch-all term including bluegrass and other American folk genres or sub-genres, but if you swap it out for "Americana" then that's where we're at.

Hey
im lucky enough to own a Sire and Sadowsky with the vintage pre. See if you can try before your buy as they are VERY different beasts !
Stealth
Unfortunately not an option, but I've watched enough Youtube vids where people have upgraded to know that this is the direction I want to go. It's already winging its way to me from Germany so it's a bit late to back out now regardless 😅

For those who haven't seen my other post it looks like I'll be replacing the preamp in my Sire V7 owing to a broken pot spindle and a desire to make life easier on myself than trying to replace the pot on the PCB. I've seen the suggestion of supergluing it back on but think that would only be a temporary solution if I did that, plus I've been toying with upgrading for a while as I've never been a massive fan of the Sire preamp, both of the sound and the complexity (I'm a simple soul and endless variability makes my brain stop braining).
So having done a bit of research I've decided to go with a Sadowsky onboard preamp as a replacement, not just because it sounds amazing but the fact that it looks like it's completely solderless these days means I don't have to go hunting for a soldering iron to borrow. My only question is in regards to the battery harness provided with the preamp which comes with a pre-installed fitting that connects to the control unit. For anyone who's done this upgrade does that connector fit through the hole between the battery compartment and the control cavity on the Sire, and if so is it long enough? Any other issues I should be aware of before taking the plunge?

Sorry for the distress I’m causing. There will be other bass’s I’m sure……..just not as nice as this.🤣
Damn your eyes. The fact that I'm having to replace the preamp in my Sire means I'm not going to be able to give into the GAS for a little while longer.

Willow has done some rockier stuff in the past too, presumably inspired by her mother, which wasn't awful.

Great basses - £400 sounds very cheap...
You're not helping!
Yeah the ones I'm watching on eBay (because I'm a masochist) are all around £500, which is why this one is very tempting but for that pesky perennial problem of being skint.

I'm sure you would. My bank account would be less happy with this desire being fulfilled though.

I'm interested in the new affordable Joe Dart bass. Anyone know what soft maple is like as a body wood? Will it ding up like basswood?

"Soft" is a misnomer, it's still pretty hard, and from what I remember of my old Squier VM70s Jazz it's heavy AF.

Certainly there is a lot more, a lot we already know about that are the rock stars of the day who had admitted to somethings but that was somehow acceptable back then. I mean if GG hadn't taken his PC to pc world with tons of child porn on it, why would anything have come out? That was all he was done for originally.
I think this is the crux of it, Gadd was caught because he was careless. How many more are out there who know more about what precautions they need to take to stay hidden and thus who may never be caught?

Audi. When I was looking for a car a few years ago I couldn't get a single one of their sales staff interested in even acknowledging my presence after spending half an hour trying. I went next door to VW and dropped £30k with them instead because they couldn't have been more different. I've come to the conclusion that Audis are driven by very pushy people because they are the only ones who can actually get to buy one.
Given how a lot of them are driven this would explain a lot.

And this (I swear I'm not getting any kickbacks from Ashdown or anything - I wish!)

There's also this worth considering.

To be fair, I think that anyone who has something for sale on Facebook (or here, or wherever) adds a fair bit to the price if they try to sell on Reverb.
eBay too, for that matter.

Saturday night I played at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham, which was my final gig with
The ELO Experience. Another grand old venue which first opened in 1901, capacity just under 1400
with two large balconies , the upper one being very high and steep.
The gig went well, a good onstage sound despite a change of rig as I’ve sold my usual one!
Used my GK800RB again, this time with my old standby cab - a Loud Inc 4x10. Really enjoyedusing it, and pleased it was enough for such a big venue/stage.
It was a near sell out gig which made it great for my last one, as well as being my 800th appearancewith the band. I first played with them as a dep at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in May 2009, and then
joined permanently in 2011 - first gigs were a short tour of Northern Ireland which were very memorable.
I couldn’t have found a better bunch of people to work with, starting out as a 5 piece & then adding 2
cellists and a violinist. It’s been an absolute pleasure throughout, and I really will miss the band and
crew (pictured below) who have become like family. I’ll still be playing with the acoustic duo though,
as well as any deps that may come my way so will hopefully be gigging more locally for many years
to come.
The Alexandra is a lovely venue, I think I saw Bill Bailey there many years ago.

Happy to go 2nd hand if I can find the stuff.. can't see any Barefaced 2 10s around on a quick search, but will keep looking.
They don't tend to break easily so get held onto, and when they become available secondhand they don't hang about.
