1. I have decided that I don't understand the problem, I can't see how a compressor is the answer, also be careful that you're not being compressed at the desk end as well, compressing a compressed signal from a Stingray can't be good, especially when it's an engineer who doesn't know how to use a compressor.

  2. I've seen some EQ's in my 3 years crewing, I've seen some eq's.
I agree with you. I mean, i use a stingray 5 which are renowned for their ability to cut through (due to the mid-biased voicing), and yet it sounded trash.
Try running everything flat

  3. Yeah that's an example of someone who shouldn't be given a job,
I have a massive problem with people who are 'too good' for the younger bands, I'm only 20 now and I've been gigging about 5 years in all your token local venues, I've had famous things said like ''you wanna get that bass looked at mate I couldn't get a good sound out of it'' in a un-named Bristol venue that I'm not going to name, and this bloke's talking about my 78 jazz bass directly interjectulamated straight into his mixing desk, that was a good joke, I just laughed at him and left.

I just thought, I should have said ''Haha well no good engineer's ever had that problem!

  4. Any good engineer would notice that, granted there are some fools out there but every good engineer I know, regardless of if theyre a musician, would see that a mile off.

I will also add that anyone who uses a mid scoop and then complains about lack of presence in a live mix should be penalized and made to go to a 3 hour mid scoop workshop which touches upon the human and commercial losses that result from mid scooping, or three points on their mid scooping smiley face eq licence!

  5. If you play in a covers/pub/etc band, I can guarantee you that sadly, a soundman doesn't have all night to make sure the bass has perfect 'bass player' level of presence, put yourself in their position, anything from 0 to what? 400 punters who cant hear the vocals.

It's very rarely any punters come over to me and complain that they cant hear the top end on the bass guitar.

You can of course make a complete fool of yourself and turn up with a 2k basson or ampeg or something, rig, and be a twat, then you won't get put through the pa at all because you're so loud, louder than everything, and a bad bass player!

I personally as a bass player just take my EBS 12 and point it at my face for monitoring, and the fact i can feel myself rumbling around the room is comfort enough for me.

  6. Basses being light in weight doesn't bother me at all! especially after a night of lugging a 10k pa system in, and masses of lighting with the sound company and then playing bass all night!

I once had a rosewood neck jazz bass with a badass 2 bridge and nice pickups etc and i bought a good quality upgrade neck from allparts. I also had plenty of time to a/b and actually made recordings too at one point, and I don't mind admitting if there was a difference, my ears cant hear them!

I've also had two ash mij 75 reissues recently, one maple neck, one rosewood, i sold one to buy the other, and It was almost like playing the same bass again, especially with my eyes closed.

I would like to publically admit that if there's a difference, I can't hear it, and i won't pretend to!

  7.
I never liked drum bank, Never liked the shop and the staff are pretencious dicks in my opinion.
If you're on about the guitar shop, I disagree, I teach there upstairs and when I'm hanging about between students I'm always impressed with how helpful Ian and any other staff have been for all customers.

The stock's not amazing, fair enough, but there's a nice G and L Tribute and an ATK til recently, and a few Phil Jones's and Ashdowns

Could do a lot worse than that!

  8. Here we have my much loved ABM 300, t's a brilliant amp, what people say about Ashdown has no bearing on mine, at least, it's been 100% reliable and i get a fantastic sound out of it with my EBS 112 with no EQ whatsoever, but i fancy moving up to a hd350.

I think the reputation these things have for being ''wooly'' or whatever is absolute rubbish and is a simple case of user error.

It also has the 'valve grind' section on it which i find quite useful, and the sub harmonics which....to be honest I don't.

It has some light cosmetic damage on the black coating stuff but other than that it's tip top and its been very well looked after.

It's also good to note that this is the smaller version of the head, they did also a ''wide boy'' version.

Pickup from Bristol or we could talk about postage.

I want £225 ono, I think thats fair, let me know if you disagree.

No trades unless you have a LMII or HD350 + cash on my part.

Pics on request. EDIT, pic added

    Edit- £200
