  1. I can still remember the HMV radiogram with my dad's collection of  Humphrey Lyttleton 78s, and also some favourites of mine, 'Take Me For A Buggy Ride' by George Melly and Mick Mulligans Magnolia Jazz Band,  and 'The Old Music Master' by Hoagy Carmichael.
Before my dad passed away (2004) I had bought him a set of Humphrey Lyttleton cds which I now have and often listen to and bring back those happy memories of our tiny terraced house in the '50s.

My Dad played the accordion and was gigging from the age of 14 to his 80s.
This was sometime after the war with Danny Black's Rhythm Boys.

  2. For the last week I have been daily, sometimes twice, receiving Google verification codes by text message. I haven't requested them and they don't say what account they are for, I have five. I check them all and there is no suspicious activity.
I don't know what to make of them yet, possibly leading to some sort of scam or maybe someone else has set up their account with the wrong phone number.

I do wonder why you want a tweeter with an 8" speaker? Most 8" speakers have pretty good HF response.

I would say, first step, do you have the data for your 8" speaker?

He doesn't say what size speaker he is using.

Hi All, I’ve got a Hartke HA1200 that has similar symptoms to yours Goingdownslow, only mine has the issue all the time.

I get a fuzzy crackle sound and sometimes it cuts out altogether. Headphone output works perfectly.

    Did your jack fix work?

    Thanks!

Replacing the input jack socket completely solved my problem.
The headphone jack is fed from the same power amp output as the speaker jack but also contains a switch that disconnects the speaker jack. I would try some Deoxit sprayed in the headphone jack and insert a plug several times to try and clean the switch contacts, and check it for any cracks like I found on mine.

  5. Logging on this morning I find all the posts over circa 15 hours old have been marked as read, I never use the 'mark site read' button. I still have many threads to catch up on and now don't know where I am up to.
    Why has this happened?

Good to know the the magnet orientation made no difference, as I never checked when I installed my Artec yesterday. Is it that obvious to tell which way around they go?

I was meaning more along the lines of when corrected it still never sounded like a Gibson mudbucker.

The orientation does need to be correct

If I remember correctly the 4 magnets have a white mark along the edge. These all want to be facing away from each other or all on the steel plate.

Forget about 'like poles repel, unlike poles attract', the steel plate wants only one (the same) polarity on it from all 4 magnets.

  7. The Artec pickup I tried was no different than the Epi pickup, both a far cry in depth and output from an original Gibson humbucker.

There must be more to it than the 30kΩ resistance.
The magnets in the Artec were in the wrong orientation on my pickup but correcting them made no difference.

I see you have played there. Have you been a regular player there?

I played there a lot over the years with a band called Free'd and up until lockdown used to do a jam/open mic night.

Looks like it has been used as a speaker cable. Coaxial cables do not usually have enough copper to deliver watts. The plug looks like it would work on a fx board staying still but not in instrument use.

Buy Neutrik plugs, some decent silicone cable, and you can rely on your cables for the next decades. If you need cables for speakers, try 2 x 1.5 mm2 or 2 x 2.5 mm2, and decent connectors i.e. Neutrik. Mark speaker cables well, if you still use plugs in stead of Speakons.

It's never been used as a speaker cable.

I am using Neutrik (not REAN) jack plugs.

My speaker cables are 2x2.5 mm² with Speakons.

  10. How long should we expect cable to last.

I had some crackle/intermittent sound and traced it to around the jack plug. Thinking one of the solder joints may have failed I checked it and all was good, but knowing there was a problem in that area I cut the lead back about 6 inches and stripped the sheath and found this.... 808275487_Faultylead.jpg.2bf9a55fee51cb5aec8cae15442af82a.jpg

The copper screen was gooey and discoloured just in that area. It was not even where the compression grip is, that is more in the body of the plug casing.

Any ideas what would cause this. Does cable just deteriorate.

Possibly about 12 years old, not abused, always neatly coiled and stored, can still see the make all along the cable, Lynx Audio. I made the leads myself.

I opened it up (I wanted to see inside anyway),took the volume board out  for better access and gave it a quick spray with servisol and it was perfect from there on.

Is this the board,   does it just come off those two clips,   what is on the other side,  does the knob need to be pulled off first?

Be aware that doing this work invalidates any warranty. Damage to screw heads will be the most obvious sign the chassis has been opened.

Had it since Feb 2019 so I don't think this would matter now.
