  2. I use the following for home practice so I don’t have to find an adjacent socket. It powers my Origin Effects Bassrig and a headphone amp (with an extra cable) Lasts a long time and just recharge the pack when you need to. Has a handy LED display with the percentage left too

I dont want any more tension on the JMJ, I just want to P bass to feel nice. I have some cheap Olympia flats on it 45-105 and they're way to stiff. I used it at a gig and had to put it down after 2 numbers and went to the JMJ.

How do they feel on the Classic 50s P bass

They feel good, I don't find them stiff at all, they are the light gauge Fender flats (9050L 45-100)

  4. I have Fender flats on my Classic 50s P and had the same flats on my JMJ, on the JMJ they definitely feel looser which is understandable considering the shorter scale length of the JMJ and the fact the Fender flats are for a long scale bass. I ended up fitting Chromes to the JMJ to get a bit more tension.

I just googled 'TE elf cab cover' and there are several UK suppliers of after market covers. I have no experience of any of them, hence no links here. I think the Elf 1x10 combo has a TE cover available, which should fit the cab only, but the handle cut-out will be different.

Cheers, I have the combo and that came with an embroidered cover, just hoped the cab on its own came with one too but doesn’t look like it

You do know that's done on purpose, right?

No I didn’t, why is it like that? I can understand the tilt side to side to allow for the radius of the fretboard but not the other way

Being a very inexperienced new player, I've not bought that many string sets ( 3) to build a reference point.

Just acquired an, as new- Ibanez gsr200 bargain ,wanted a cheapo extra bass to keep in my van to practice.
Then I put on a set of Fender flat wounds @ 46 quid.

The A ,D and G all sound really good, and massive improvement to the originals,
BUT the E string! Hard to explain the sound, its as if affects echo has been applied, and fretting the low F is not a nice tone`.

My question is : Do you sometimes get one bad string in a pack?

as a note ; I also removed the 9 volt cheep preamp, thinking it could be the problem,
I did not like the sound anyway ,made no difference to the problem, but now as a passive set up, it sounds a bit cleaner.

    Thanks

Check your witness points on the strings, especially as they are flatwounds

  11. A few weeks ago I wanted to scratch an itch of wanting to try a Fender Custom Shop Precision. Having had a look online there was nothing local to me so went done the route of having to buy and making use of the 14 day return policy if I wasn’t happy.

Good job I did as I wasn’t happy!

I ordered 2, an Olympic White ‘63 Journeyman Relic and a Dakota Red ‘63 Light Relic

    Olympic White (£3200)

Pros: Nice ageing of the body paint and neck, neck was lovely and worn and beautiful to play.

Cons: Heavy (over 9lbs) Strings misaligned over the fretboard when aligned over the pickups. Pickups were tilted towards the neck as if the foam underneath hadn’t been placed properly. Tuners were so stiff you almost needed 2 hands to turn them!

    Dakota Red (£3500)

Pros: Lighter than the Olympic. Nice ageing again and tuners actually turned!

Cons: Electronics were completely dead! Plugged in and nothing at all!!

So did I think either of these basses were worth over £3000 each? No!

If I’d paid £1500 I still would of been miffed so obviously they were both returned post haste!

I then managed to get one of these

Fender Classic 50’s Lacquer (Nitro), about 12 years old so nicely aged neck, body and hardware (naturally) Neck is gorgeous and worn so silky smooth, nice low action and frets are impeccable. Pickups sound great and weighs under 9lbs. Cost? £700!

This one isn’t going back! 😂
