1. I'm wondering if anyone, with far better knowledge than me, can offer any guidance on the electronics in an Ibanez Bass.

I've read great things about the new PowerSpan pickups in some of the lower models, but not so much love for the power tap switch. Meanwhile the models above have a very handy 3-way mid frequency switch.

Would the electronics out of an SR500E be compatible with the PowerSpan pickups in the lower models? Or is it just a silly idea?

I know the lower models only have the one switch mounted on the body, but it's hardly difficult to drill a new hole for another switch. So I guess a follow up question to that would be, could it be possible to use the SR500E electronics, but also incorporate the power tap switch in the signal path?

Also, does anyone know if you can replace an Accu-cast B300 bridge with a B500? Is it the same size? So just a simple case of removing the strings, unscrewing the B300, screwing in the B500, installing the strings and checking the setup? Or would it not be that simple?

  2. Does anyone know if there are any size differences between the Ibanez Accu-cast B120, B300 and B500 bridges?

I guess what I am really asking is, could I easily change one out for another?

As an example: is it just a case of removing the strings, unscrewing a B300, screwing in a B500, insert the strings and double check the setup?

  3.
not worth a lot, they'd switched production to Korea by then, the earlier Jap ones are quite good with Dimarzio p/ups fitted, there's a wikipedia page all about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hondo_(guitar_company)
Thanks for the link. It was bought 2nd hand. I would imagine it would have been at least a few years old when I got it.

  4. I have a Hondo II bass which was bought for me back in the 80's (roughly 1987) and I am wondering if it is any good and if it's worth anything at all? I'll have to take some photos, but I wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it from the model?

In all honesty it's not really in great condition, but a lot of people like relics!! :)

  5. Unfortunately (and I know I'll regret it) I am forced to sell this as I need the money.

    5pc SR4 Maple/Bubinga Prestige Thru-Neck (34" Scale)
    Mahogany Body with Walnut Top
MR-4 Bridge with 19" String Spacing
    Bartolini Custom Neck Pickups
    Bartolini Custom Bridge Pickups
    Vari-Mid III HQ 3-Band EQ

Other than testing it when I got it (to make sure it was working fine) the bass has been in it's case ever since. It's in fairly good condition. The main things to mention are a broken catch on the battery compartment, the truss rod cover on the head stock is missing and a fairly major scratch on the back of it, which is about 2 inches long. The flight case also shows signs of use, but was obviously built to last.

The original strings were replaced (by the previous owner) with some that are more heavy gauge, but I am not sure what they are exactly.

I can email photos if required.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks for that. :)

  7. I briefly owned an SR300 (which my brother now has) and it is a superb bass for £230. If you are after a bargain I would suggest this....

He has now listed it on eBay, but maybe he would end the auction (as there are no bids yet) and sell to you direct, to save ebay and Paypal fees.

The hard case is £70+ new, so this really is a bargain for a bass that would cost you £470 brand new (£540 with the case).

  8.
No, they won't charge you any more for a nice piece of walnut. Mine was made in 2007 - I bought it late 2007 as it was completed as a stock bass. It's a through neck completely standard S2-Classic and as I said, it's the most amazing sounding Status I've played & as you can imagine, I've played (and owned) one or two! And yes, it's the same as one you'll get from Status now. The design hasn't changed on these in a while.
Excellent, thanks for the information. I could have done without the pics though, you tease!!

Maybe in a few years. :)

  9.
Hmmm... Triple it and we may be able to start discussions, LOL! - The 4-string walnut one is the best S2 of any generation I've ever played/heard. The sound/playability of that one even blows the two KingBasses I had out of the water!
Can't blame me for trying though, right? :)

May I ask when you purchased yours? Is it still the same as the one they produce now? Did you go with a Through-Neck and Headless? Is Walnut a "standard" option?

  10.
I'd still like a Mk-II, though. Maybe I'll have to sell some stuff to get there...
I'd be more than happy with a Standard or an Artist, but for now I'll give you £500 for your Walnut S2 and then you'll be on the way to your MkII!! :)

  11. What about using something like this....

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=220693

You can use any amp/combo you like then.
