  1. I hadn't thought of trying Newtone for short scale bass strings. I use their acoustic strings on my Martin acoustic guitar.
  2. When I bought the bass I wrote to Adrian at Marusczcyk and asked what strings were on it and he said Maruszczyk short scale (45 65 85 105) but it was over a year later that I bought some spares and it is looking like in that time they changed supplier. I did write again after I bought the packs of strings and asked Adrian if they had changed supplier but he did not comment, only that when they run out of their "own" strings they use other makes. Presuming that their older strings were made by one of the major companies I was hoping that by process of elimination I would find the same strings but who knows, I might just waste a lot of money and should just stick to their latest strings:-)
  3. Thanks for the reply, I'm glad it is not just me. My sensitive guitarists fingers can definitely feel the difference between them, the Ernie Ball are a bit smoother than the red silken Maruszczyk but not as smooth as the original set. I presumed they had changed suppliers as well. I may well go back to the silken Maruszczyk as I did buy a couple of sets, imagining that is all I would use. But I am willing to try a few other makes if they are not too expensive. Funny thing is I noticed that all the photos of current Cazpars for sale on the Maruszczyk website all have unsilked strings on.
  4. I'm new here, I've made my introduction post so here is my second post! I bought a Mensinger Cazpar 4p about 18 months ago, I have really bonded with it, the setup it came with was perfect for me, so when it came time to change the strings I wanted get the same strings that were on it which I was told by Adrian were Maruszczyk's own short scale strings. So I bought some but they were very different to the strings it came with. The new Maruszczyk strings are red wrapped at the headstock end, they feel rougher than the strings the bass came with. Anyway I wrote and and asked Adrian and he said the strings I have bought are definitely Maruszczyk and it was likely my bass shipped with other strings if they had run out of their own, but he couldn't tell me what make! The original strings are not wrapped and have chrome coloured balls not brass, I guess they are not D'Addario as those would have coloured balls, I currently haver Ernie Ball on but they have brass balls so not them. I would be curious to know what strings any other Cazpar users use or if anyone has any ideas what the stock strings I had might have been. I mean at the end of the day there aren't that many short scale strings, especially here in the UK. I am using 45 65 85 105 which is the gauge of the Maruszczyk shorts, I'm not sure but it might be possible that the original strings are slightly thinner, I'm not sure. Thanks

    Hello

Hi, I'm not really a bassist, I'm a guitarist who has always liked playing bass, mostly on my own recordings. Having small guitarist hands I have always been drawn to short scale basses. I have had one or two but never found a keeper until just over a year ago when I bought a Maruszczyk Mensinger Cazpar 4p which I have bonded with and now think of as my bass!
