  1. Hi all. Done loads of reading on these heads and as a noob putting his first giggable rig together they are a contender. Short version: I have 2 Eden EX 112 8 ohms 300 w cabs. 1) I understand this head to be around 500 - 800 w RMS depending on source. Is that @ 8ohms or @ 4 ohms? 2) Could I use this with a single 300 w cab? Obviously I wouldn't have it cranked, but would it it be ok at low- mid volume? 3) Relates to long version below........Hold on as best I can and scrimp and save for the Ashdown or go for the Bugera? I really liked the Ashdown and it paired well with the cabs. Long version: I originally bought an Ashdown RM 500 (evo i) head but returned it due to a faulty fan. Dave Green even heard it when I was on the phone to him and said it shouldn't sound remotely so loud. Offered to swap it out for free but postage from Ireland was 30 bills. Sent it back to retailer and got full refund. Plan is/ was to combine refund + postage and save a bit longer for the evo ii version of same head. BUT Other grown up life nonsense things are threatening to limit this plan so Im looking at a cheaper head, hence the Bugera. Thanks
  2. Yea what Dave said to me was that all the fan is supposed to do is circulate air not suck air in and force air out. Just to keep air moving around so yea should be fine at home. I love the fact he could hear mine over the phone and straight away said 'nope, shouldn't babe doing that.'
  3. Yea I returned the head and will Hang on a while and get the evo 2. Just a nod to how awesome Ashdowns service is, I had emailed Dave prior to phoning him. I got an email 2 days ago saying , 'sorry for late reply but is this the Same Gav from Ireland I spoke to the other week about a noisy fan?' I love that. I read somewhere else about putting a switch on the fan and one person raised a good point.....If you forget to switch it back on before a gig, or it gets bumped to off during setup you'd be in trouble. Made sense to me.
  4. @Ben4343 that's a nice set up. If anyone is curious (which you're probably not) I decided to return my RM 500 to the retailer for a full refund. Why? im in Ireland and to post it to UK to have fan swapped out brings the total cost of the amp ever closer to the EVO ii, which with a headphone out would be enormously useful for me. So rather than get it fixed Im gonna get my money back and save a smidge more a for the evo ii. Many thanks to Dave Green whom I spoke with earlier. Absolute gent. Diagnosed over the phone that my fan sounded abnormal and offered to swap out the fan and ship it back same day. But as I said that would push the total money spent to €440. Another 50 and I can get a new evo ii so that's the plan.
  5. So I rang ashdown just there and was amazed….. Dave Green actually answered the phone! Really nice guy really helpful. He’s offered to replace the fan and send it back. I’ve to pay postage from Ireland though but hey it’s a fast solution.
  6. My wife went upstairs to bed half an hour ago, turned amp on and volume right down to barely audible just to figure out a tune and she texted me telling to stop cos she can hear the fan. AAAAAARRGH
  7. Yea I will of course. You got the evo 1 or 2? Be no harm to let them know about it....the more they know that it's an issue the better.
  8. Cheers. Its not that unfortunately.
  9. that's great to hear. Can I ask, do you guys have a particular number to call them on or is it whatever is on their site?
  10. Damn. 😔 I thought it was loud but was hoping it was maybe a case of 'it'll be grand at a gig'. Theres also a pop every now and again which is coming form the fan. Ive emailed Ashdown after I registered it and Ill follow up with a phone call tomorrow. Thanks for taking a look.
  11. Cheers if anyone had 50 seconds to spare could you watch this video and tell me if the fan is louder than it should be? I’d really appreciate it amp was on for 5 minutes in an ambient temperature. You can see my sexy slippers in the clip and I was wearing a fleece so not exactly a hot room
  12. Why thank you! It was more for the lack of blowing stuff up. Cabs are rated to 300 w @ 8 ohms. But I guess Id wanna really be pushing the amp before running any risk yea? Probably an obvious question but this is my first proper rig. Started out using the hi-fi speakers via laptop then got a 20w Warwick practice amp. Great little thing really.
  13. Thanks for the advice, Ill ring Ashdown tomorrow. Any idea what this head into 8 ohms is? 300 or 350w?
  14. That’s great, I’ll ring them and ask for Dave Green.they’re support sounds amazing
  15. Hi all, apologies if this has been covered already but read a few pages and didn't see it Just bought a new RM-500 evo 1 (the shiny chrome front). It has the single loudest fan Ive heard since our pc in the house in 1994. Its super loud, and as its stands isn't useable for late night 'quiet' practice as the fan can be heard in different rooms. Has anyone else experienced loud fan noise with their amp? Did find a solution? Im over in Ireland so postage over to Ashdown, while not impossible, is a p.i.a. This amp ticks all my boxes bar one, no headphone out which seems like an odd absence, but other than that its all good. Any thoughts on the fan issue would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Sent an email earlier so hopefully they’ll get back. Just a balls being in Ireland as postage will be a pain in the donkey
  17. We’ve all had that dream!
  18. Thanks for the info. Can’t remember if I mentioned but I have an Eden WTDI which I bought to make my practice amp sound better but that could come n handy as a D.I option no? I’ve no more money to buy anything else anyway. side note….. I’ve received the rm 500. Yet to try it as only collecting the cabs next week but plugged it in to the mains and turned it on to see what the fan might be like and HOLY F**KING stinky poo it’s LOUD my wife was in a different room and came in when she heard it saying ‘ what the hell is that noise?’ is there a way I can fix this?
  19. Absolutely. If I in anyway needed to crank I’d just use the two otherwise it’d be low volume ata low volume gig
  20. That’s what I was hoping thanks for that
  21. Thanks for all the info. I’ve finally settled for an ashdown rm 500, with 2 x Eden ex 112’s 750 euro all in this gives me 500 w with both speakers or 300 with one. I have an Eden WTDI which has ground lift if ever needed although warwickhunt has reassuringly said I won’t need it. in the hotel I’m in now a guitarist and a bass player we’re playing trad and the bassist just had a small head and cab and I was happily reassured that going modular was a good choice. it’s difficult starting from my position. im at a point where I’m pretty much able to gig and have been offered to dep a wedding gig already. so getting a rig together to suit the standard/ experience of people around me on a budget is tricky so thanks too all for your advice. when I started drumming over 20 years I had some decent gear to get me going with basic little gigs and it develops over time. this is jumping in at the deepend!! thanks again
  22. Nobody di’s the BASS amp you mean? every bassist I ever played with as a drummer di’d there amp. I’m confused 🤔
  23. Thanks. And as regards the di being post eq, is that gonna fosters off the person on sound?
  24. Gonna pull the trigger on the rm 500 BUT..... the DI is post eq and effects and it has no ground lift. Has this ever been an issue for you? Also, is there an alternate option to di? Could I di from a line out for example? line out into di box.
