1. Hi. This is pre-83 'cause the head has vertical inputs. The cab has four 12" speakers which were also available until 1983. So I'd say this is 1981-1983 half stack.

The cab model is 1935B and the head model 1992 as someone already said. Both part of the JCM 800 Bass series.

2. Hi guys. I haven't seen this post before, but I hope you enjoyed the video on YouTube. There will be an other set of 3 videos "soon"… Or later. But anyway. I'm still trying to source the some more amps for that. But this time it won't be a blind test. Too many confusions in the YouTube comments. Here's the first 23!!! amps in SoundCloud. Please feel free to browse.

Best call matamp with the serial, they'll tell you everything right.
I actually asked it via email...
... It has ECC81-ECC83-ECC81 preamp tubes in it... Most likely stock but I was just wondering is this the way it should be? Can ECC83 be used instead of the 81 in V1 for more gain?

Hi J,
The answer is yes

CHEERS LIZ @ MATAMP
Yes to all? Maybe... Hehe. You can really count on their replys.

What's in V1 now? Be surprised is an ECC83 isn't stock. Better off having Matamp mod it for more gain.
Mine had (and still has) an ECC81 in V1 and V3. V2 is ECC83. Not sure if it is the stock configuration as I bought the amp from the market place on BassChat. Does anyone know what is the stock tube configuration? Sending it back to Matamp is not my first choice as I'm not living in UK.

5. Has anyone tried ECC83 as V1 in the 1st gen?? GT200 (classic matamp controls, drive - depth - bass - treble... no mids)? I'd like to get a little bit more gain from the preamp as I'm now boosting it with the booster. The new GT200 seems to have 2 ECC83's in the preamp... But the circuit has to be completely different anyway. So ECC83 or the booster... That is the question.

I've got an IBS 4 x 10 cab. Its surprisingly good, took me ages to find out what it was, never seen a Marshall bass cab like it. Would love another one, or the 2x15 or 4x12 to go with it. Any ideas? Do you have any of this gear?
Late reply... Sorry about that. I actually have IBS 2x15" and 4x12". 2x15" is with original Sidewinders and the 4x12" has two non-original sidewinders and two Eminence Tonkers. These cabs sounds like Marshall cabs... Not the deepes or richest bass tone, but a great tone for distorted rock etc. The 4x12" has good cleans too if the amp and the settings are "suitable" for the cab. I've been using them with Orange AD bass head, 70's DR201 and 70's JMP 1986 bass head. With more modern heads like JCM 800 bass... Well not my cup of tea.

7. I got some of the codes from Celestion.
I still don't know about the 15" codes but here's all the 12" codes I got, in case someone needs these:

BASS (only two models)
T3865, 12" / 8 ohm / 150w / sensitivity 98 dB / cast chassis / cloth edge
T3866, 12" / 16 ohm / 150w / sensitivity 98 dB (not 100% sure about this) / cast chassis / cloth edge
edit. The sensitivity might actually be 101 dB in both cases (T3865 and T3866)... I'm not sure about this anymore.

And the LEAD versions:

T3771, 12" / 8 ohm / 150w / cast chassis / paper edge
T3772, 12" / 16 ohm / 150w / cast chassis / paper edge
T4361, 12" / 8 ohm / 150w / pressed steel chassis / paper edge
T4362, 12" / 16 ohm / 150w / pressed steel chassis / paper edge

I think that the sensitivity of these LEAD speakers is 101 dB.

I'm not sure about his neither but I think that there is only 4 different versions of the 15" Sidewinder... "normal" 8 ohm and 16 ohm and High Sensitivity 8 ohm and 16 ohm. All with cloth edge and cast chassis.

8. I've been asking about these before, but since I haven't found any real answers yet I'll try again... There has to be someone here who knows something about these woofers. I'm interested in the bass versions which were used in Marshall IBS cabinets. I did some searches and found out that there is four versions in 12" / 15" sizes.

12"
S12-150 PaperEdge (cast and pressed chassis versions) LEAD
S12-150 ClothEdge (cast and pressed chassis versions) BASS

15"
S15-250 ClothEdge (cast and pressed chassis versions)
S15-250 HighSensitivity ClothEdge (cast and pressed chassis versions)

And of course there is also 8 and 16 ohms versions, so that makes total of 16 different woofers. What a mess...
I found the following codes:
S12-150 T3771 (8 ohms, 12")
S12-150 T3772 (16 ohms, 12")
S12-150 T3865 (8 ohms, 12")

S15-250 T3925 (8 ohms, 15")
S15-250 T3840 (16 ohms, 15")

That's all I know so far... So I need help to identify these woofers. If anyone could match even one of these, I would really appreciate it. I think... I THINK but I'm not sure that the 12" T3771 and T3772 are the LEAD versions and T3865 is the BASS one... But with cast or pressed chassis... I don't know. Only thing I know for sure is that the 15" ones are both BASS versions since there is no 15" LEAD available. :)

9. Hi,
Thanks for the info. It helped me at least a bit. :)
I read the history part from the hiwatt.org and yes... It explained most of the stuff. The things is (which some of your posts already answered) that I'm really interested to know how good clones these new amps are (modern Music Ground made Hiwatts, Weber MyWatts, etc.). I personally do believe that current Hiwatts and Weber MyWatts are good amps... And it is a fact that building a re-issue is a really hard 'cause you can't get those old-school components anymore. Re-issue is a re-issue. But I'm delighted to hear that the current re-issue Hiwatts are true to the old models as far as what comes to manufacturing (hand build in UK).

So one might say that the current Hiwatts and other clones are decent (or excellent) amps and has the same basic idea then the old ones had (with some modifications) but they don't have that old school magic made by the original components? Has anyone actually been able to test an original and current Hiwatt side by side?

10. I've seem that hiwatt.org before but at least as I scrolled it through quickly, I didn't find any detailed information about the current amps. And I know that the old British are all quite similar but what about the old Hiwatts compared to the current ones?

11. Tell me, tell me...
All about the Hiwatt bass heads. Where are the current models manufactured? Are they PTP or PCB? How much difference there is between the old DR -models and the new Custom/DR -models? And what about the difference between DR103 (guitar?) and DR 201 / DR 405 (bass) -models. How long have these bass models been available? I've seen Hiwatt bass amps from the 70's. And how has these older DR models developed into these current models? It seems that the old ones as the new ones are using KT88 tubes but some models have EL34s. And I've seen DR201 with only 2 inputs (without brilliant inputs). I haven't yet been able to find decent Hiwatt "bass history".

12.
can i ask how you find the tone stack on the marshall? it's one of the few valve heads with a proper active one and i'm doing something similar with the next head i'm building for myself
It's a good amp. I got two other amps too (Orange and EBS) and they all got their unique features as well as pros and cons. I personally prefer simple amps which makes my EBS T-90 head a great amp. But it doesn't have the gain or mid frequency control so it doesn't fit every situation. The Orange has all the basic controls as far as I'm concerned (gain - bass - middle - treble - volume) and I really like that amp too. But even thou I got those two great amps I wouldn't sell the Marshall 'cause that one is also a great piece of an equipment! Marshall is also missing the gain control but it has that active EQ section as you mentioned. As I said I personally prefer simple amps so that's why this really versatile control section is not my favorite. But what comes to the tone I got nothing to complain. It works well for the bass and for guitar. I don't need for example the slope control with the bass but a friend of mine who uses the same amp for guitar told me that it's a good function with the guitar.

I believe that you can find the blueprints for this amp quite easily so I would say that it's worth building. And as you are building it by yourself you can do the modifications etc. the way you want them to be. So give it a go. BTW my Marshall head is running with 6L6 power tubes. Also something worth trying if you use the amp with bass.

And about the cabinet I'm searching... There is at least four different "JCM 800 Bass series" 4x12" cabinet models. Original JCM bass series (manufactured in 1980-1986) had three models (14" deep) and then IBS cabinets (manufactured in 1985-1993) has this one model I'm searching for. And I believe that they are all labeled as "JCM 800 Bass series".

13.
Seen these on the EBS site and having on of the Valve Drive pedals it appeals to me.

With the 65 Amp Apollo, the Ashdown Little Bastard and this are we seeing a new trend for the small power studio bass head?

I know I've used a MiniMat for a few years for home jamming and recording but like the idea of something bigger but not huge. Not sure how practical it would be in the grand scheme but I digress.....

Any info appreciated and I'm guessing its based on the Fender Bassman circuit?
I got one. Check out topic no. 102651

14.
I know that EBS Watts usually go along way but even so... is 90w enough for gigging?
Once again it's not all about the amp. If you got a cabinet with good SPL then the amp is more than enough. I'm using my EBS with two 4x10" cabinets and it's at least loud enough. I got 3 amps and none of them has more than 140W (4x 6L6)... Well actually if you consider that they are valve amps and the power section is A/B then I don't think that any of them has even 110W. And I've done large stages too... At least here in Finland the PA steps in if the hall is anything larger than a pub. But for stage the amp is enough.

BTW the EBS has quite low gain pre-amp. I've been boosting it with MXR micro amp which adds a huge amount of volume too.

15. I tried to search the forum... I did some internet searches too. But I still can't find too much info about this cabinet.
Dr. Tube has this IBS manual for download and the manual sais that it is IBS series model no. 1520. 4x12" 150w Celestion Sidewinder speakers. The cabinet can handle 600w and it has a sensitivity of 104 dB!

The reason why I'm so interested is that I bought JCM 800 bass series head about a year ago. The guy didn't want to sell the head without the "matching" cabinet... So I bought the cabinet too 'cause the price was decent. And so I had this HUGE Marshall 2x15" cabinet (IBS model 1552). I tried this half stack once or twice but never really got too keen to to the cabinet. But couple of days ago I thought that I'll give it an other chance... And it was worth it. All the troubles concerning the tone were gone. So the cabinet wasn't the trouble maker... It was the amp with the old tubes. I actually liked the sound so much that I would really like to know more about these Sidewinder loaded cabinets.

Compared to the regular M-cabinets these IBS ones are "over sized". The depth of the cabinet is about 44.5 cm. Other dimensions are almost matching with about every other marshall cabinet. The cabinets plate sais "JCM 800 Bass series" but the model plate sais IBS 1552. Does anyone have that 4x12" model 1520? Have you seen these on eBay? Are they better known as JCM 800 cabinets or IBS cabinets? I would really appreciate every piece of information I can get.

16. Hi,
Let's post to general 'cause I can't find right place for this one. If someone knows better (more efficient) place for this, please let me know. But anyway... A friend of mine has this Trace Elliot Valve series Twin all-tube (??) head...

Image link to combo version: http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/5647/resi...im000663bu9.jpg
(Image by MileBG from Gear Porn discussion)

I don't know too much about the amp and it seems to be really hard to find any info about it. My friend would like to sell his amp and he asked me about the value... But I really don't have any facts to support my ideas about the price. So can anyone help me?

I would guess that you can get at least 300€ no matter who is the buyer... But if it would be my amp I wouldn't sell it with less than 500€. Maybe someone who really wants the amp could pay something like 550...650€?? Maybe?? I found some adds pricing the Quatra version up to 1100€ which might indicate that the Twin could be worth even more than 650€.

I would appreciate all help available. Thanks.
