My friend played guitar for him for a year or two. I met him back in 2003. On top of everything else, he was a nice guy too.

I love synth bass. Synth bass and bass guitar can be used effectively together too!
-
I really enjoyed that. Well done to whoever made that.

I was looking for your entry. I was expecting to see something along the lines of "too polite to refuse a cheeky hand but too faithful to risk anything more - as with the music, almost as good as the real thing". -
Check this site out. How funny.
That is amazing. THAT has serious groove and panache. THAT is a massive hip hop inspiration. Fabulous mate. All the instruments are contributing to what feels really laid back and very urgent at the same time. It's magic.
I need to burn you some CDs mate. Fill you in on some of the older stuff you might have missed. -
Behind. Don't even try it. Every non-New Orleans band I've seen makes it sound flat, lifeless and boring.

I haven't been but it looks like a cool venue. Not sure how easy your load-in will be though!
I'll hopefully be able to come along and finally check you guys out! -
The dreaded question: would you be willing to split the head and cab?

Bought a pair of Corts from him. Good price, nice guy and good player!

Exactly. When she said "pro singer" was she referring to her preference of sewing machine? -
It's nothing specific to music. Loads of people speak with authority on things they know absolutely nothing about. God knows why, and I wish they'd stop!
Couldn't agree more! -
I should be picking these up from Mark tomorrow. I can't bloody wait.

The best thing about this performance is the fact that Allan Holdsworth is actually wearing an Allan Holdsworth t-shirt. Classic. -
Cucumber Slumber - Weather Report. A classic featuring Alphonso Johnson on bass.
Is this a large PA with monitors? How do your hear yourself?
Good questions.
I find that P and J basses sound great plugged straight into the desk. The only problem is ensuring you can hear yourself from venue to venue. -
I've always thought of him as being "that guy who wrote every classic blues song and riff who just happened to play bass" but check out this video. He was pretty handy on the bass too!
I understood why Jagger was thought of as 'first frontman' but, as was said, he was very influenced by James Brown. So it seems to me there were frontmen before Jagger - e.g. James Brown and many others - although I can see that it might be argued that the predecessors were not the frontmen of a group in quite the same way.
There were rock n' roll performers before Jagger - but as you say they weren't the frontmen of bands.
Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis (the first rock star?), James Brown etc. -
I didn't watch it, are you allowed frontmen that play guitar/bass/drums in this series?
Hendrix wasn't a great vocalist but one hell of a frontman.
You're allowed Sting. No other frontmen from the show were allowed to play an instrument it seems. -
For a series that relegates bassists to the role of 'other' they sure had a lot of bassists in the frontman episode.
I'd totally agree with their analysis that Mick Jagger was the first frontman. Not sure what else they were on about. I find it strange that they didn't mention Ozzy at all but then with a show like that there are always going to be people left out.
EDIT: Just been on the BBC site to consider casting a vote. No Jim Morrison! -
We could find ourselves on p.78 of the Entertainment section of a Sunday paper if we organise a boycott of the series...
2. Work backwards and write your own arrangements of the new songs. It shouldn't be too difficult to write down the basic chord structure from played-by-ear root notes.

Write out a chord chart - you don't need to be able to play the guitar or piano. You can figure it out on teh bass. If you can write out a bass line, you should be able to figure out the chords.
More or less what they said.
Work out the chords yourself but also see if you can hum a bass part along to each tune that really works. -
Once you've got those basics down, try building up to ghost notes and 16th note syncopation, like Louis Johnson.
