I found out about these basses too late. I never see them come up for sale in my neck of the woods.  I'll have to settle for finding a neck for my existing P

Funnily enough Bass Bros said this one came over from Belfast!

Lovely looking bass… you beat me to it!!

Sorry IanA I didn't know anyone else knew this one was coming into Bass Bros!

I'm also still from Leicester sort of - still down there for work a lot although I moved from Oadby to Ilkley (near Leeds) last year.

no pics unfortunately but it looks like it wasn't this one after all as it was slimmed to a B width...unless cameltoe knows any more.

Could well be that it's a more common mod than I thought!

Congrats on a very cool bass.

Thanks for the detective work miles'tone it does look like several people have had the neck profile done on these RWs. For me it certainly makes it much more playable instrument than the typical P bass.

  4. Just a note to flag up great service from Dave Green at Ashdown.

The pre-amp valve had clearly gone (horrific noise) in my ABM EVO IV and Dave has sent me a free replacement.

I've installed that and the amp now sounds fantastic again.

  5. I just picked up this bass from the excellent Bass Bros and am really pleased with it.

It is just under 9lbs at 8lb 13oz which my back appreciates!

An interesting feature is the neck which is 39mm - I've been searching for a P bass with a jazz neck and this fits the bill. Initially I thought it might be a bit chunky front to back but after a weekend playing it I find it very comfortable. It is actually slimmer than other precisions I've tried.

Bass Bros are not sure if it came out of factory like this or if a luthier has done a job on it but either way it is ideal for me.

  6. Yeah they are a nice little amp. They do seem to have that Ampeg sound albeit in a small package. I'm no expert with Ampeg though and I know people do say that the sound comes from a massive heavyweight cab.

I've often thought this one would be perfect for a bass and guitar set up playing small gigs.

  7. Amendment to the Ad.

And many thanks to Karlfer for the heads up on this.

The Fender website for dating Japan built guitars is a bit confusing (for me anyway).

Serial no. T + 6 digits is listed as made 94-95 in one place (so not 1996 anyway!!) but later on the webpage it list T + 6 digits as built between 2007-10 when they returned to using ‘Made in Japan’ again. And in relation to this they specifically mention the Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller models.

So this bass was made between 2007-2010.

  8. Mint condition Fender Jazz bass - Geddy Lee tribute model made in Japan in 1996.

Not much to say about this bass guitar, everyone know how good they are.

    Neck is fantastic. Weighs 4.2kg.

I swopped the white pick guard for a black one but kept it so that is included.

Not really interested in any trades accept maybe a Fender P bass with a jazz neck.

I went by your profile. Piece of advice, start with a jam session (see below) and just observe first time. I talked to the drummer at my local one and he gave me their basic set list to pick from. Take your bass and commonly people will strike up conversation. Be honest about your abilities and they’ll support you

I’d avoid open mic nights to start with as a) bass is not generally a solo instrument and the guitarists who run them don’t get that and b) you need to spend time at each to find someone who wants to collaborate with a bass player. Since they are usually acoustic types, turning up with an electric instrument generally indicates a lynching is imminent.
I got very lucky with a young lady who organises my local OM as all sorts come to her nights and she’s good at matching people up and supporting them but that’s not normal

Hi Geek99 I’d forgotten about that - just changed my profile.

and thanks for the tips, much appreciated 👍

You can have great fun playing bass at Blues jams. There's something really liberating about stepping onstage with a bunch of musicians that you don't know and playing a tune totally off the cuff.

Now the thought of doing this may fill you with dread, you might not think that you're good enough to get up to jam or you might not know how the whole scene works or even how to get yourself on the list to play.

I've put a video lesson and article together to help anyone who has aspirations to get up and play at a Blues jam. I'm sure that the lesson will give you the confidence to go for it and head down to play at your local jam.

In the video I discuss common Blues jam tunes, I talk about learning Blues song structures and importantly give you some of my personal experience concerning jam night etiquette.

I hope this helps and I’d love to hear any of your jam night stories or if you would like to play at jam and the lesson helped you.

All the info you need is on the webpage.

    Greg many thanks for this!

I just found this today and it is exactly what I was looking for - really helpful.

I’m still a novice but my dream is to be competent enough one day to play at a blues jam 👍

  11. Bought a Fender Mustang bass from Sid yesterday. A top bloke and excellent to deal with.

I can highly recommend him to other basschat members.

Many thanks Sid I hope our paths cross again.

    Cheers

  12. Many thanks Sid I’m very happy with the bass. Thanks for going over the modifications you made to the mustang and for an interesting and enlightening general chat about playing the bass. It’s really useful for a novice like me to talk to an experienced bass player like yourself.

    All the best

    Ian

  13. Hi Nick thanks for sending that link 👍

I really enjoyed reading that but it made me think about why I got a mustang bass. I was thinking it would be more manageable and easier to play having played guitar but there she is a fairly slight petite woman with her P bass!

I will look out for long scale basses to try.

I do know what she means about acoustic guitars and I love the power of the bass through an amp but I will take my Martin guitar to my  grave. It’s good to have both.

  14. Thanks Bassfingers. Seeing quite a few Leicesterfarians on here makes me think of a question. Where is the best place in Leicestershire/East Midlands to have a bass set up done? Might be useful to know for the future.
