  1. Kind of what I feel really. Seems a lot of effort for something that isn't that applicable to the "real world". There must be better things to practice. Cheers JPS.
  2. Has anyone ever used any of the various bass exercise/fitness books (by Josquin Des Pres, Max Palermo etc) that are on the market? The kind that give you different combinations of left hand fingerings across different strings e.g. 1234 across adjacent strings. If so do you think they are any good, or simply a waste of time as they are not particularly musical i.e. based on scales, etudes, arpeggios or whatever? Just curious. Cheers JPS
  3. Thanks mate, missed that. Must be something about Kent and TEs at the moment! Cheers JPS.
  4. Can anyone recomend a good amp repair shop in Kent? My Trace Elliot AH400SMX has developed a fault. The input gain stage doesn't appear to be working properly. Even turned up to full it doesn't drive the amp/desk hard enough and barely peaks on the satisfactory/OK light. Cheers JPS.
  5. Good point LukeFRC. I do have the gain level high enough to light up the OK/satisfactory light, but could try boosting it a bit further and playing with the gain/trim on the desk. Thanks JPS
  6. Does anyone know whether the Behringer V-Tone BDI21 can be used just as a DI box, rather than a tone shaper and if so does it do the job fairly well? Cheers JPS
  7. Thanks for that. I will suggest that, although the singer who sets up and runs the PA may have already tried that. Could it not be a problem with my TE?
  8. It's for bigger gigs where I use my Trace Elliot AH500SMX. I use the XLR connection from the back of the amp into the mixing desk. Compared to my smaller amp - a Hartke Kickback 120 - the signal being sent to the mixing desk seems very weak. Ideally I'm looking for some way of being able to use the TE from time to time, but with a stronger singal being sent to the desk. Hope that makes sense. As you can tell I'm not the most technically minded of blokes. Cheers JPS.
  9. No more than about £50 ideally. Obviously if that's unrealistic then I might have to have a rethink budget wise. Thanks JPS
  10. Can anyone recommend a decent, not too expensive DI box? I want to use it instead of the DI out on the back of my amp which seems very weak. Cheers JPS.
  11. Thanks Lfalex. No it doesn't have any controls, just simply 2 post eq and 1 pre eq DI sockets. Thanks also for the recommendations. The Hartke sounds like it might do a job. Do the standards passive DI boxes e.g. Art, Samson etc send a decent level of signal to the box? Might be all I can afford for a few weeks at least.
  12. Oh I see. That probably explains it. Thanks for that. Any recomendations for a DI box?
  13. I used my Trace Elliot AH400SMX for the first time in ages last night (I normally use a Hartke Kickback 12 through the PA), the singer, who looks after the PA, complained that the signal coming from the DI out put on the rear of the amp was really weak compared to the Hartke. As a result he had to chan ge the settings on the desk so that they were a lot higher. Is there any particular reason for this, or is it just 2 different amps? What, if anything, could I do to increase the signal and not have to make the PA/desk work so hard? I'd forgotten had brilliant the compressor on the TE is and how great is sounds generally. Would it be worth investing in a separate DI box? Cheers JPS.
  14. Thanks guys. I've told him that we ideally need some other kind of surface so fingers crossed.
  15. The surface, rather than the drug obviously! My band have got a gig in a marquee tomorrow night and I've just been sent a text asking if we will be happy to set up and play on the grass in the marquee. Instinctively it sounds like a bad idea to me i.e. not very safe or stable etc. Am I right, or should it be OK? Any advice/experiences more than welcome. Cheers JPS
  16. Thanks guys for all the advice and suggestions. I quite like the look of the Lomenzo pedal.
  17. Ah right. Is there a massive difference between that and the standard Ashdown overdrive pedal? Thanks JPS.
  18. My covers band have just started covering Should I Stay Or Should I Go? To get the overdriven sound I've been using an old Boss guitar OD as a stop gap, however, I'd like to get a dedicated bass pedal so that my bottom end (as it were) doesn't disappear completely! I'm not looking to spend big bucks as I'll only be using it on one or two songs, but want something that does a solid job and is useable. Any recommendations welcome therefore. Cheers JPS
