Oh my that is absolutely perfect.

In the meantime I'm having a fretless neck built for my Sterling Ray34. I bought it with a Status graphite neck but I wanted a slimmer neck, and a wood neck. So I contacted a befriended luthier here in the Netherlands and he's building a flame maple neck for me, with an unlined fretless ebony board. Can't wait!

Looks like a bit of reverse engineering going on there too 😄

Ok… I’m an old dude (63), playing since 17 …and I’ve never wanted anything other than the clearest, piano string-like bass sound achievable, in my life.

    …Until ‘22.
I discovered that I *do* like a bit of seasoning.    I was just ignorant of the possibilities…

my search has seen me make a LOT of errors.   Blind alleys.   And expensive dead ends.

But I found my (new) mojo.

As you’ll notice, there’s a lot of overdrives.   (The “Substance” only arrived this morning, so although I’ve tried it, I’m still in the infancy with it.  It’s currently not integrated).

There’s probably a lot of redundancy here, …but right now, I have a mix of 4 (or 5) drives plus the comp making my new interesting and tweakable sound.   There will have to be a period of ‘rationalisation’ in early ‘23 no doubt.

Have a great New Year my bass buddy guy & gals!

Those Blackstone mosfet overdrives sound great, how are you finding it?

You press down a string on the neck with your left hand and pluck it over the plastic blocks on the body and it makes a sound. String a few together and you've got music!

That would have suited you so much better if you’d said

“What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It’s got wires that vibrate, and give music
What can this thing be that I found?”

I thought it was maybe a synth bass

Actually, I think this 2001 Basslab L-Bow was the only music gear I bought this year, but even in any other year it would surely have come first as it has one of the finest and most entertaining basses I've ever played.

    What does it do?

I think I've said this at some point in the past - I love the sound of Stingrays but the only way that I can get the Stingray sound live is with a Sterling. I just can't get as much growl and punch with a regular Stingray unless it's a ceramic pickup SR5.

I bought this a few weeks ago - Sterling HH with matching headstock

The sterling is a monster,  I’ve slays preferred it’s sound to the stingray a HH must be marvellous
