1.
Go to the EUB forum on Talkbass - they have a sticky called 'the definitive Palatino modification thread'. There's a ton of big and small mods you can do to improve the sound and playability.
so whats the difference in the Palatino EUB and the Harley Benton EUB?

  2.
played a pallatino a while ago...not good...go with stagg....
Why was the stagg a better bass then? I much prefer the looks on the palatino, but is that all its got going for it, or can it made in to a gooood EUB?

    Pete

  3. Hey guys, i have been told by my partner to get ride of some of my basses, but i would like a double or upright bass. So anyone like to trade? I dont mind putting a bit or cash my end.

About the bass, its an Ibanez SR886 6-string bass, in cherry red, serial number dates the bass at 1991. Very good condition, little ding in the back of the neck, active eq, new jack input, nearly new strings, very good intanation, great action. It plays beautiful!

  5.
Just checking - we did have someone who posted a couple of weeks ago with a similar issue and he was leaving his bass plugged in all the time.

In that case I'd check that there's nothing obvious shorting out the battery connection on the jack plug when there's no jack plugged in. Failing that take it to a decent guitar tech to have it looked at.
Naa wasnt me, did it once, never again, turned up to a audition with a dead bass, Oops :)

Opened it up, nothing looking out of order, hmm...

  6.
The best 6 strings in my views is one with one less string, the high C in this case. I could never get on with that so it's only fivers and 4's for me.
i once met a guy that gigged with two basses, one tuned EADG and the other ADGC, cos he didnt like the 5 or 6 string basses. so can see your point.
but theres something about 6 string basses i just loooove! XD

  7.
Thanks to this thread you now know every single bass is the best 6 string bass! So basically take your pick.

haha so ture, not really stuck for choise ey. i been looking at the Ibanez sr706 and cant find them for sale, how come you cant get them in the uk i wonder then? looking at putting new pickups and wireing in my 886 as well, cant wait for that! but im suprised no one has mentioned the 6 string steve harris fender jazz bass, has anyone played/seen/heard this bass? although, i couldnt bring myself to buy one as its a sig seres and just couldnt buy someone elses bass lol. also suprised to hear no one mention warwick, never played one myself, only a 4 string, all i know is they seem to be over priced. i had a peavey grind 6! loved it, was my very 1st 6 string bass, but wouldnt buy one again, just prefer the 34" scale now and couldnt bring my self to buy thesame bass twice. :)

    pete XD

  8. hey all, i am planing to put new pickups and wireing in my ibanez 886, really wanted to put EMG 45J pick ups in it but the exsisting ones are 5" long! which is longer than the EMGs.

so, what would you suggest? really want to bring this awesome 6 string bass back to life with a little upgrade!

    Thanks XD

If you are tuning a 6 string bass then keep it in 5th's.
    Low to high:
    F# B E A D G
    or
    B E A D G C
    [/quote

    thats 4th, not 5ths.
i tune my 6 sting bass B E A D G C, i had an 8 string bass tuned F# to F and never ever used the F# string in over 2 years. faaaar to deep i think.
